On windows XP and earlier :
1. Right Click the desktop
2. Click properties
3. go to settings
4. the resolution slider is there. Try different resolutions untill it looks good.

Sir i have a 19" LG

To change the resolution, right click on the desktop and select properties, then in the settings tab, select the resoloution you would like. Normaly 1024X768 or 2180X1024. Depends on the monitor but I would say 1024X768 with 32bit colour.

Otherwise if is 1024X768 is not supported then it is a Graphics driver problem. Download the latest Nvidia drivers for your Graphics card by typing the model into google.

Your timely rating of this soloution is much appreciated.
Thanks

I have changed to an Acer 19in wide screen monitor, my photo albums appear as wide screen pics

You need to set the PC video resolution to 1440 x900 @60Hz which is the native resolution of this monitor.

My acer v223w monitor popped p "you are not in prefereed mode so i clicked on preered mode and it wnt blank pleae help

The preferred mode is the resolution at which the display looks best. Unfortunately, you switched to a higher resolution than your monitor can handle.
Now you must start in safe mode and change the resolution.
If you can't do that, hit the F8 key as the computer starts and if you see the option to start in VGA mode, choose that. You can then set your display back to a lower resolution.

NEC multiSync 1700V as external monitor for Notebook Toshiba U205, Operating System Window Vista Home Premium. It displays only part (80%) of the picture compared with notebook's monitor.

Hi, if the 17 inch lcd screen is not a widescreen then the problem with the screen is possibly nothing more than the aspect ratio or resolution, which ever way you wanna look at it. All laptops have a widescreen type of ratio, so you will have to be either willing to change the resolution when you switch screens or setup different profiles, which you should beable to do through control panel, appearance and then personalization, you will then have access to it.

Hi There! My Acer x223w monitor is floating a "Input Not Supported" box that will not go away any suggestions?

The documentation for this monitor should list its supported resolutions, and you will need to attach another monitor that supports a greater (possibly lower or higher) range of resolutions and then set it to one of the supported resolutions for the monitor. The native resolution appears to be 1680x1050, although I cannot find online documentation directly from Acer.

1280 x 800

Try that.

(The 1440 x 900 is for a 19" widescreen)

Distorted screen

Youre problem is because when a widescreen monitor is fed with a signal that is not ws it stretches the image sideways making people look short and fat. The only way to really fix this is to make sure the graphics card is providing a widescreen resolution to the monitor. In this case the native resolution (the resolution the screen looks best at) is 1680 x 1050 . If you right click ur desktop and go down to properties and settings u want to change the screen resolution to a widescreen res.

Hopefully 1680 x 1050 ... if this is unavailable try 1440 x 900

If you have an nvidia graphics card you can also go to the nvidia control panel and change the resolution attributes. If the widescreen res isnt available u could also try the 'change flat panel scaling' and select the do not scale option.

Please note before starting any of this make sure u have the latest graphics and monitor drivers available.

17 in monitor

Hi there,

Set the resolution to match the new screen.

In XP, Go to control panel, display, settings tab and change the screen resoution slider. If you have a regular shape screen (not widescreen) choose 1280 by 1024 pixels. If yours is a widescreen, choose 1280 by 768 pixels.

Input not supported when trying to play a game

the game will need to be set to the same screen resolution as your monitor or the best that suits, beccause of it being widescreen, so look in the graphic or video settings in the game, or change the resolution of your monitor to suit the games highest setting. This is done by right clicking on your desktop, down to properties and then the settings tab in the next window and then move the slider at the screen resolution box.
