Try downloading and installing the video drivers for the laptop.
Go here to get the drivers:

Choose the operating system that you are running, and then go to video section, you'll probably see two nvidia drivers for it, download both of them to the desktop. Try one of them first and see if it installs the video for you. If it doesn't then install the other one and that should do it. The system might ask you to reboot, if so then reboot the laptop and then you should be able to change the screen resolution.
Do you have already installed the software of your video card???try to update your video card..
sometimes there are video card that are xp supported that's why when you format your pc the video card is ready to use but it is not updated....
try updating it...then check if you can change the resolution of your pc..
Open Screen Resolution by swiping in from the right edge of the screen, tapping Search (or if you're using a mouse, pointing to the upper-right corner of the screen, moving the mouse pointer down, and then clicking Search), entering Display in the search box, tapping or clicking Settings, and then tapping or clicking Display.
Tap or click Adjust resolution.
Tap or click the Resolution list and find the resolution marked (Recommended). This is your monitor's native resolution-usually the highest resolution your monitor can support.
Monitors can support resolutions that are lower than their native resolutions, but text won't look as sharp and the display might be small, centered on the screen, edged with black, or stretched.
