Question about Philips Magnavox DVD/VCR Dual Player

1 Answer

I received a DV225MG9 Progressive Scan DVD/VCR Magnavox combo for Christmas. I have yet to get it to working wit my tv. My tv is a Magnavox made in 2004. It's model # is 20M52331/17. I do have cable; however the cable comes directly from wall outlet into back of tv; no cable box is used since I have basic cable. The only thing in back of my tv is where the cable goes into the plug where it's screwed into that opening. On the front of tv is as follows: where yellow jack goes, it has video over the top of that jack; next comes the white plug in with L by it; then the red plug in with R by that one. The word audio is over the top of those two plug ins. Looks like you plug in those into back of dvd player in the group second from right that shows DVD/VCR audio and video out. Next I have a Phillips Universal Remote to work my tv. Do I have to program a code into this remote for the dvd player as the next step? What then. I can't seem to change the language to English; it stas on Spanish. Where do I go from here to operate the DVD or VCR when I want to watch a movie; then how do I go back to watching tv after movie is over? This is where I have problems. I can't make it run the movie nor do I have sound. Is it necessary to buy a RF modularor to make these two things compatible and work together or should they work together without that extra in-between step. The way it sounds, sounds like it's not necessary to have that extra step. Sounds like you could either use it or not use it whichever makes the blasted thing function. HELP.

It sounds like you need to program your remote control for the dvd/vcr combo. I am not sure about what remote you have but usually they have a button that either says tv/vcr or source or input. You would need to press that button and the it should allow you to choose if you want to use the input from your vcr/dvd combo or just to watch tv. Sounds like you have the cables hooked up correctly so I would first try turning on the tv and putting the tv on channel 3. Then turn on the dvd/vcr unit and then use the remote that came with the dvd/vcr unit and see if it has a button that says either source or input or even tv/vcr and press that and it should allow you to choose the audio/video input that the dvd/vcr is hooked up to. The you will have to enter the setup button on the dvd/vcr remote control and it will allow you to change languages somewhere in that menu area. Good Luck and I hope this was a little helpful.

I am considering purchasing a Funai Full HD UpConvert DVD Recorder/VCR Combo. I have a HD Phillips TV with HDMI connections. I do not have cable - just use over the air TV. How do I connect the Fun

Purchase a DVD recorder/player that has a HDMI cable connection and use the connections on the TV so you'll get a hi def picture. RF will NOT give you a Hi Definition picture even if it's up converted.

Magnavox dv225mg9 dvd/vcr player. Hooked it up to TV/Cable receiver/combo and I get great dvd reception sound and picture, but on the vcr I get only sound

I had the same issue. You probably have your unit connected with the newer cables that are red, blue and green. These are more sophisticated and offer better quality for the DVD portion. However, they will not carry the video for the VCR, only the audio.
You need to connect a *yellow* Video Out cable from your DVD/VCR to the Video In on your TV, this should carry the video for the VCR! Hope this helps!

DVD player wont show picture

to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.
