Seek rate problem in Seagate 200 GB

I have Seagate 200 GB PATA 7200 RPM harddrive..... I had purchased the harddrive in April 2007, recently when
I diognised the harddisk health with "Harddrive Inspector"... I came to know that it was in bad health and the seek rate was just 6%....

I am really worried about my data... the harddisk is full with data just about 3-4 GB are left empty.... Right now I have Disconnected the harddrive as I used to keep it as slave one...

I am really worried about harddrive and especially the data... please provide me a solution...

Hey, I recommend you test the harddrive with seagates own tools.

http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/

I recommend the dos version.

Also try active smart
http://www.ariolic.com/activesmart/index.html

I would recommend backing up all the data from the drive, and then if the drive still has problems You should send it for warranty repairs. Shouldnt cost a thing.

You can also take it to a local pc repair shop to get all the data copyed and then sent to warranty service if nessasary it will cost thought if you do it via a shop.

I want to transfer data from my old computer to my new conputer using my Segate 500 GB back up drive. How do I do that?

First, you need to choose all the files you want to back up and put that into a folder then plug in your external harddrive click "my computer and double click your external hard drive and it will open another window. just drag all the folders that you want to backup and paste that to the new open windows which is your hard drive then thats it. just remove the external harddrive correctly and wait for the file to be complete transferred.

hope this helps. please rate my solution thanks.

Seagate SanMax 120GB external with fan noise

It depends on the noise. It should be still under warranty. You should NEVER operate it without a fan as this is a safety hazard. If it is making a noise like a buzzsaw, it is most likely the bearings of the HD mechanism. If it is making a scraping noise, it's likely the fan. Make use of the warranty if/while you still can!
