Canon Rebel XT Does NOT Take Pictures (AF & Exposure seem OK)

Suddenly my Canon XT stop taking photos. When I look thru the viewfinder, ALL seems OK. It autofocus' just find, and when I look at the LCD info window below the viewfinder the exposure the camera selects seems OK, and the flash pops up normally. But when I snap a picture all sounds OK but no picture is take. I can see old photos I took previously on the LCD.

Any ideas?

This is what someone off of yahoo answers told me...turns out it was in fact the mirror..what a relief..hope this helps you too!
It seems like your mirror is locked up in the "up" position, which is why your viewfinder shows nothing.

It's possible that your battery died in midshot, locking up the mirror. Some things you can try:
1) remove the battery, let the camera sit overnight. Charge the battery and reinsert. Try to take a photo in manual exposure.

2) If that doesn't work, try the mirror cleaning up/mirror cleaning down procedure to see if that unlocks the mirror.

3) if neither of those work, you'll have to get the camera looked at by a Canon repair location.

I have the SAME problem. I wrote to Canon and they told me to shut off the camera, take the battery out and wait 20 MINUTES! I can't WAIT that long, especially when I'm WORKING! I rely on this camera to work! Its annoying! Then they said if that doesn't work, to SEND IT IN and if its under warranty, they'll fix it for free.. if its NOT, then I have to pay for it. BUt the "technical team" will make the decision.

Camera stuggling to take pictures under normal

If it was working ok before, I don't think your friend did you too many favours. They may have left a residue on or mis-aligned the sensor.

But this looks more like an exposure issue. Unless the AF sensor also governs exposure control.

I daren't suggest anything which may ruin you camera, but it may still be a "cleaning " issue. First I'd check the AF sensor lens on the front of the camera, should be nice and clean. Second, go back to your friend and ask them to show you exactly what they did. You may see something out of place.

Canon rebel xt 1. image looks blury in eye

1. The viewfinder's diopter is probably out of focus (doesn't affect Auto Focus of photos). There's a dial and a +/- symbol next to the viewfinder. Turn the dial till you can see clearly through it. Alternative reason: The glass in the viewfinder is dirty/foggy. Use camera cleaning solution (a drop) on a cotton bud to clean it.

2. Malfunction needs Canon Service Centre to take a look at.

How can you use the LCD screen in lieu of looking through the view finder to take pictures. This is for a Canon EOS Rebel XT.

Im afraid your camera does not have live view so therefore you will have to use the viewfinder to take your images and view them back on the lcd screen.

Nikon D60 is suddenly taking very dark pictures

I have had "dark pictures" from each of my Nikon DSLR (D70, D80, D200, D300) cameras usually when taking pictures from a tripod and/or the self timer. Situations where you take your eye away from the viewfinder which allows stray light to enter thru the viewfinder and throw the auto exposure way off. Not sure if this is what is happening to you.

Blur on night sports pictures

You are probably going to need a faster lens to get pictures like you want, like around the 1.* range. If you have the ASA at 1600 and aperture at the minimum in Av mode, try and keep the exposure time to 1/focal distance. Such as, if you are shooting 200 mm lens then maximum exposure time is 1/200 second. If you zoom out a bit to 50 mm then it may look better too. You may as well turn the megapixels down too because otherwise you'll just see the blur even more, I'd suggest 3.2 megapixels that will look good in 4x6 photos or on the web. Other than that, try and take pictures where the action is coming at you or going away. Get as close as possible too, so that you don't have to zoom as much. At the H.S. football games I go to it seems like they let anyone down near the field who has a big lens.
