Make sure that you leave the unit plugged in for two hours, and remove the sd card, if you have a card in it.

On the top or bottom of the unit is a usb port and a reset button, take a paper clip and open it, then put the paper clip into the little
reset hole and push in for 30 seconds.

Turn on unit, hold the on button for 5 seconds, now turn off, now hit the reset button again as said above and then power on and run though
your menu and see if this did the trick, if not you might have to send the unit in for repair.

Green light on but will not switch on

plug in your xl via the usb cable to your computer and let it charge a few hours, then press and hold the power button for up to 15 seconds.

do not use the car or home charger to intially charge your xl. they are to maintain the battery, not a rapid charge.

let me know if you need further help.

Our tomtom one 3rd edition stopped working it will not switch on or charge up even th ough green light comes on charger when plugged into car

try resetting it, but first put it on the charger for a few hours to make sure its charged. using a paper clip or something similar, depress and hold the reset button located on the bottom of the unit for 15 seconds, then hold the power button for up to 5 seconds till the unit starts.

if that fails, hook your tomtom to your computer and run tomtom home and see if that will update or repair it.

TomTom will not charge with car charger

Mine does the same, the light comes on on the charger, but not on the TomTom unit itself. There is clearly a loose connection in the cable somewhere as you can twist the flex and make it work, although this is not very reliable.

I just use a USB charger from an old phone instead.

My tomtom go 910 will not switch on it has the green light on at the top left when plugged into a charger but nothing turns on when pressing button for 2 seconds any ideas??

In general I find these sort of problems can be fixed by the below

If the Tomtom loses battery power it might cease to function with a blank screen but will show a green light when you charge it. The trick is charge it on the mains charger for at least two hours. Then reset the device with a paper clip. If you get no reponse hold down the on button for at least 20 secs and the device will show the Tomtom logo and play a drum roll and startup normally.

Tom tom not working

  1. First , try a re-set through the 'reset' hole underneath the tomtom. 1 quick short press is all thats required. Unlike others suggest , you do not need to hold it in for anything longer than half a second. You should feel the switch 'click' as its a tactile switch. Don't press too hard as you can damage the switch and cause it to lock ON. Once pressed , try turning the tomtom on as normal. Sometimes a tomtom battery can drop below its normal "shelf" voltage ( normal is about 3.8 volts ). A tomtom charger has a protection circuit inside to stop or slow the current it gives out if there is a short. If your battery HAS dropped volts TOO MUCH ( less than 3 volts ) the charger can "see" the tomtom battery as a "short" and the charger therefore shuts down and doesnt charge the battery. You could leave the charger connected and HOPE that the very small amount of current it's putting out will eventualy bring the battery up over 3 volts. Once it is up near its "shelf" voltage ( called shelf voltage as that is the voltage the battery is at 'on the shelf' ie . when its not powering anything ) the charger will begin to charge as normal....... OR ... you can gain access to the battery and charge it from a bench power supply that has voltage and current meters. Once again , once the battery voltage gets something near 3.8 volts the normal tomtom charger can be used to charge it. You caould connect another normal battery to the tomtom battery just for a few seconds ( not recommended and can be a bit dangerous ) if the normal battery is such as a PP3 9v type it should bring up the tomtom battery to over 3.8 volts in a few seconds. The tomtom can then be charged as normal. .............. It is also possible that some internal IC's ( chips ) have blown inside the tomtom and unfortunatly this would require a specialist repair centre to replace them as they are really very very small and are not a normal soldering job. Good luck. ... if this post has helped you or interested you please rate the author.

TOMTOM GO 710

Could be a loose contact at the connection between the wire and at the gps unit.

Think the green light must be on at the charger port and also on the gps unit.

This green light can be found near the power button on the gps unit.
