Question about Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P - Motherboard - ATX - iP45 - LGA775 Socket - UDMA133, Serial ATA-300

1 Answer

Motherboard gets power and shows all the phase lights (6) on but never gets to post. I know the ram, gpu and cpu work. How can I tell if it is the motherboard or a bad power supply. I do not have another ps to try.

I need info about what the cpu phase leds on aN msi 990fxagd65 mean

They indicate the number of different power phases that the CPU is currently using. In order to save power the motherboard is able to reduce the voltage to (and performance of) the CPU. In 2 phase mode (2 LEDs) it basically switches between high performance, and low performance. 4 LEDs means that there are two additional intervals in between the high and low power settings. 6 LEDs indicate six total phases, etc.
I believe that there is a greater possibility of system instability as you increase the number of phases that the motherboard switches through.

My pcg-fx220 vaio laptop has what looks like battery 1 flashing yellow light. I start it up but it doesn't get past the sony start up screen the little light just keeps blinking. It's plugged in so...

Take out the battery, plug it in turn it on, if the problem is the same unplug it. Turn it over and remove the access panel from the bottom. There you should find your RAM if you have two RAM modules installed remove both and replace them one at a time with the power off. So insert one and power on computer if the same result as before, remove it and insert the other RAM and power it on again. Also look to see if your CPU fan is spinning. If your fan only spins for 5 to 10 seconds and powers off one of three things are bad, either your CPU, GPU, or Motherboard are bad or damaged. It might turn on here or there if this happens it's probably your GPU. Hope this helps you.

Did you test the power supply with a power supply tester? You may only have partial power or very low power. I would try a power supply from another pc, Then I would check the ram in another pc if possible one stick at a time or if no other machine :
I would try removing all the ram and try one stick at a time in a different slot each time till it boots and then try a different stick the same way. You could have a bad memory stick and or slot.
I think its the power supply first, a bad stick of ram second or a bad ram slot third and the motherboard last. I would try all my parts in another pc first before a buy another motherboard

Fans work green light shows on motherboard but cpu wont power up

Any HDD light on / if not could be failed HDD OR faulty IDE / Sata cable.

Did you get posting beep if not remove / replace ram / reboot.

If you did then either mobo / CPU may be faulty.

Unable to start - do not get post.

First of all that is too old system that you are using, problems can be your CPU's golden legs are not connected well on motherboard, second your ram memory is not working good, maybe is slower or faster than that motherboard can receive.
First of all disconnect everything from motherboard ...if it does not work :

1. Remove cooler from cpu
2. remove cpu from socket, turn around CPU and look at those golden legs if they are moved aside
3. if they are moved turn them back on the line use needle or small pocket knife to do it and do it carefully
4. carefully place CPU back in socket
5. put CPU protective grease
6. put back cooler on CPU
7. remove ram memory from slots
8. look at the golden legs if there is no broken use clean cotton swabs and pure medical alchohol and clean the ram golden legs put the ram back in slot
9, do the same with your graphics card if you are using AGP slot
10. put back power cable 20 pins and 4 pins
11. Connect keyboard and monitor cable
12. Use screwdriver to shorten the power on pins

If it does not work than you should say goodbye to that motherboard and old technology that you are using and buy motherboard socket 775 or socket AM2 and new cpu and ram its cheap this days to have real dual core computer.

Motherboard not starting Bios but fans start

Yes, had exactly the same problem earlier this week, the bios chip may be faulty, as you know all other components work, so it's down to the motherboard and a replacement is required
