Question about Panasonic NV-SJ205 VHS VCR

1 Answer

Hi. This machine has been excellent for many years but recently a tape got stuck in and wouldnt eject. We took the casing off and managed to get the tape out. However, now when you put a tape in, it just ejects it back out again and won't hold it inside. Any ideas? Steve

How to eject an HDCAM tape stuck in as BVW75 Beta deck.

I don't know what this error code means but I have managed to remove tapes which stuck in a VCR and cannot be ejected. Whether you do this is purely up to you, but it's usually possible to remove the casing (carefully!) so that you can get to the tape-handling section. Then it's a matter of gentle probing & trial and error to get the machine to release its hold on the tape. Look for a series of mechanically linked parts which are driven by motor but activated by a microswitch tripped by action of inserting the tape. Just don't strain the linkages and if you remove anything make a note of where it came from.

Betamax machines are obsolete so getting hold of the parts is the biggest problem. However your best course of action might be to look at the many websites that have been set up by the enthusiastic people that Betamax attracts. If they can't help you no-one can.

Tape is locked inside and cannot eject it. We took to a local camera shop and they said it would cost $200-$250 to help us get it out. I don't need to fix it if that is the case. I just need a player that...

The reason your tape wont come out the camera is because you may have not cleaned the record heads of late, they get tacky, grab your delecate tapes and twined them round the capstan and heads, then yes your little tape is well and truly stuck, trapped like a rat in a cage.
I have managed to get tapes out within a few minutes with a small screw driver and small pin, so I cannot see why they told you that stupid amount of money.

VCR won't eject tape - timing of loading mechanism is off

Now-a-days most of the gears are made out of plastic(HDPE, if I remember correctly), when the rewinding command is given even if one gear tooth is worn/broken it will throw the entire timing out of 'gear'. Since the problem has already occurred, and, this is the only function that has malfunctioned my advice would be to leave it as it is! ('cos repairing/replacing it is manual & therefore a costly affair plus there is no guarantee that the replacedment will function properly)....sodeep

Go-Video VCR Problem with accepting/ejecting tapes

As with any VCR, there are rubber parts inside that have become slick. This is a simple repair for any shop. The mechanisms are Samsung ones if I remember correctly. Expect a parts cost between $20-$40. Add in the local labor rate for the total cost. This is worth the repair cost as any replacement would not last anywhere near as long. This is also a normal occurrance as rubber parts harden with age. I have repaired many of these over the years.
