Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Just suddenly stops cooling in warm humid weather. Had a fellow fix it 12 months ago. He said that a 'seal' wasn't completely sealed and that I ought to manually defrost it every 6 months. I have done this but it has stopped cooling 3 times in the last 6 weeks and I have turned it off for about 8-9 hours, wiped everything down and then turned it back on. It works ok after I do this. VERY annoying. I was about 5 mins out of the normal warranty when it first happened. Thanks

I have 1994 Chevy Lumina 4dr 3.1 Multi Point, Front W/D, F1, 6cyl. My air conditioner was blowing warm air @ 2mos ago & my husband added freon & a/c began blowing cooler air but, not as cold as...

You have a Freon leak because all the fittings, seals, coils rubber, compressor seals and entire AC system will need to be checked out by someone that can find the problem and resolve them or you will never get this fixed. A/C in cars get hot in the summer and cold in winter and all the seals dry out. The system needs to have all the air and moisture pulled out before any Freon in charged into repaires A/C unit or the system will not cool properly. That is the only way to resolve this Tammy, Thanks Sea Breeze

sub zero are vey expensive, and sometimes tough to diagnos, but judging by your description, i would inspect your door seal, make sure it is closing and former a good seal all the way around
the best way to handle this, is to turn it off for the day, and let it defrost for 24 hours,

Bosch Fridge Freezer: Fridge Not Cooling

Your refrigerator's cool is provided by your freezer section through a damper - there should not be excessive frost on the cooling coils - the most common problem is a defrost timer - are you absolutely sure the noise you hear is the defrost this is the first thing to check, defrost control and its components, is it properly shutting off or stuck on during operation - the next thing to check is for possible sealed system problems / small leaks, door gasket seals, etc.

The fact that it started to work once you manually defrosted is the key here - an over forsted evap will cause the problems you describe most commonly - so have your defrost system checked completly and properly - that should solve the problem. followed by checking door gaskets, damper and sealed system - if only part of the coils are frosted as opposed to the entire surface, that usually a clue to sealed system leak - yes 10C is quite warm for a refrigerator. It should be between 34F-40F, optimal is 34F. And freezer section no warmer than 10F, optimal at 0F (-18C)

Strip between doors constantly hot

On some refrigerators there is a device which warms this area to prevent condensation as the cool air escapes from the compartments. you may have an energy mizer (or simular name) switch on the control panel. If found turn it off to see if this area cools. Temp should be warm to touch, but not hot. This only needs to run in the warm humid months, but is usually left on all year. If there is no switch, it is probably just the mizer, but if manual is available, best to check. No manual, most manufacturers have one available at their website.

The inside of the refrigerator sweats profusely, especially in humid weather. The unit is 20 years old. What could cause this problem

Hi, This is usually caused from a bad door seal. Checkand make sure the door is sealing tight on all sides. Also make sure the little switch near the controls is set for humid days.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Freezer not cooling

ZoeM, I am thinking freeze up from humid conditions, too much 'window shopping' or bad door gasket (is that the seal of which you speak?). If the unit is only 9 months has a full warranty. Don't do anything to it beyond what is described here.

Defrost the unit completely. If you can get warm air to the coils, do so. If not, leave it off and open for 2 days to completely defrost.

To check most door gaskets: first, make sure the gasket and its mating surface are both clean and visually undamaged. Next, test by simply closing the door on a piece of paper...use a strip about 2-3 inches wide and long enough to go inside the unit that you can slide across the gasket/frame surface. Close the door with the strip near any suspect areas. You should not be able to pull the strip out easily. Replace any damaged gaskets.
