That motherboard doesn't have a network card integrated. You need to install an eithernet card into one of the PCI slots (white) on the motherboard. The ethernet card is then connected to the crossover cable.
Most motherboards don't but some do integrate video or ethernet or a modem, and sometimes sound, but a lot don't and you need to install these individually.

Im sorry i missed understood your post earlier...
you mean you will connect your laptop to your desktop instantly..you need a lancard for your desktop...is your desk top have 2 lancards???

one for your connection and he other for the connection of laptop to desktop..

it is much easier if you buy a router so that you will just connect your laptop to the router as well as your desk top....

vote for this..

Hi i need to know what cable i need to conect my lap top to tv ? my lap top is a dell latitude d610

Depends what your TV supports. You could do vga to hdmi cable if your tv is newer, this will only do video since vga doesn't support sound. You would need a headphone jack to whatever your tv supports for sound adapter.

I am trying to install SY-P4I 845PE motherboard into a case... need help with arranging the cables from my case to right pins on the motherboard

This board is a oldie...
Its going to be slow with the 3 ISA slots.
Anyway, most important is the 24 pin power connector and above to the right is a 4- pin video plug, which you must have to complete your video output.
Next, close to the CPU holder is a 3 - pin CPU fan connection.
Next, your IDE drives, you may want to check your pinout on the cables you are using.
Next, is the USB connections.
Sound, power on, turbo, reset and leds should all be together on one block.
Hope this has helped you.

Although cable to desktop connects to internet, my router from desktop to laptop via router won't connect.

Desk top to internet is OK.
How about Destop through Router connection to Internet OK?
Assuming you want to connect wireless from Lap top to Network, need to configure correctly for wireless in Router.
If you connect Lap top to router by wire and it didn't work that mean your router is bad.

External hard usb connection with another computer

USB cables/devices were _not_ designed for computer-to-computer connections. Don't try it.
Instead, buy a "cross-over" Ethernet cable, to connect the network-ports on the two computers.
