Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

My washing machine is NOT a bloody Hotpoint anything. It is a LG WD-8016C intellowasher Front loading washing machine. My problem is that after the machine completes its cycle, the door locking mechanism will not release until 24 hours after the cycle has finished (instead of two minutes). Your site somehow swapped my machine to be some Hotpoint and I cannot figure out how to change it to the correct make and model.

I can set the child lock on and off okay, although mine simply displays "CL" rather than a smiley face.
Mine has no button for "End of Program" as far as I can see.
So last night's washing is still trapped inside.

    Not very helpful so far:
I have tried the Child Lock on and off a couple of times to no avail.
My machine has no "End of Program" button, so I am unable to try that.
    Any more ideas?

Hi, Lets see what we can do to resolve this. It sounds as if the Child Lock feature is interfering with your wash end of cycle. Try resetting the Child lock on and then off by doing the following.

1. Press "Option and Temp" at the same time
2. Then you'll see a smiley face between the wash and rinse buttons. Press the rinse and wash buttons for a few seconds at the same time and the child lock (hence smiley face) will switch off

You can also try holding down the "End of cycle" button for more than 5 seconds as see if that releases your door lock.

I plan to add to this post after pulling down the manual. The above options are from past experience and not the manual. I will repost esact steps soon....

Pressing "option and temp" at the same time per the manual enables or disables the child lock.

There is one other thing to try and that is checking the time delay wash cycle settings. Pressing the power button is supposed to reset the time delay functions if activated. The max time delay is 19 hrs and the minimum is 3 hours.

If none of the previous options work you may very well have a control board problem. I know it has to be irritating to have to wait a day for your laundry to come out of the machine.

(someday I will learn how to spell too (esact?? Previous post)

Ok last comment... even after pressing end of cycle for more than 5 seconds your still going to have to wait 1 - 2 minutes for the door to open.

The LG AU website link for your machine:

From all the research I have done pressing the start pause button is supposed to start the 1 - 2 minute timer to unlock the door. From here it seems that if it will not open after 2 minues by depressing the start pause button then it appears you have a control board problem. It also says that it should "Power off" after 4 minutes once the start pause button is depressed. (key word should!)

I know that is not what you wanted to hear.

My only though is that if your seein a : Colon when you press the start pause button I am wondering if you see 19:00 after you press start. (Time delay) I don't think that is what your experiencing from what I read but it is an indicaton that the time delay is on.

After all this get smart in the books it appears that to correct the delay problem with your machine it is probably going to take a call the LG for service. I would hope the unit is under warranty but figure the coverage period has passed by now and you would have made the LG "help" call already.

I would still call them... there is a ":very remote" possibility we both have missed the obvious here but state your symptom of having to wait 24 hours to get the door unlocked after a wash cycle to retrieve your clothes. My thoughts are that the real problem lies inthe control board itself at this point. Sure wish I could have waved the magic wand and made it go away. Wish you the best and thanks for giving a Fixya a go!
