Problems setting up my Denon AVR 1910 - cannot get sound from sky

Set up my Denon which has HDMI inputs from my media centre and from Sky HD (Satellite) with output to a TV and is driving a subwoofer and 5 speakers. Managed to play a movie with sound last night fron the media centre but cannot get sound for Sky TV or a DVD player attached. Also the sky picture is a very strange colour, unwatchable in fact. I am finding it incredibly difficult to operate the remote and setting up the assign feature. I need an idiots guide to help me through this as the manual is also difficult to follow. Can anyone help get this working properly please?

    This is my setup...

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

    Thanks for your help.

I am using HDMI for Sky Sat and for Media Centre - I actually noticed that I don't have a connection to the amp from the DVD player so will add an audio cable there.
Bigger issue is getting sound from Sky now/

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

    Media Centre below:

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

no, the back of the Media Centre is shown. Here is back of sky......

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

Sky plugged directly into TV works fine. Its now plugged back into Denon slot 3

    see below:

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

I have the Denon connected to the TV via the spitter - see diag
what do i need to do on denon to make it play sky sound, so many buttons to press

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

    HDMI 3

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

    Right, progress.

Sound came on for Sky but picture was awful, showing negative colors.

So... decided to see if the HDMI splitter had anything to do with it. (See my diagram top corner to left of Lounge TV) - I plugged the Denon directly into my TV and it work perfectly.

The reason I split the HDMI is to enable me to see Sky on the TV in the kitchen as well as the Lounge at the same time. Worked perfectly for me before the Denon.

Any idea what I can do?

    Big thanks so far,

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

But my splitter in place now worked fine out of the sky box and into both TVs.

    This splitter costs 10 times!

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

Not sure I understand your last suggestion - can u pls show on my diagram YOU ARE DOING A WONDERFUL JOB so far

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

Oh My God - it worked.

Sky to splitter then from splitter to Amp and to TV2

    Thank you so so much.

Now to get sound from DVD player (has no hdmi) what do I need to connect up (see below for back of DVD_) to Denon Amp?

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

Its all working. Now need to sort out the remote - thanks so much you've made my weekend.

  • Trevor Tucker Feb 06, 2010

Step by step, I was taken through to a very successful conclusion, thank you so so much.

Hi,

a) It would be of great help, if you could possibly post the Model and

Brand of your "Media Player " . DVD player,

b ) While we are on the process of making all your system work,

Here are my suggestions

1 ) connect Sky TV direct first to the TV video input

2 ) Connect DVD to the TV other video input

3 ) Connect TV audio out to Denon aux in

4 ) Can you connect Media Centre to TV direct if still available?

Here are your other options :

    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

a ) If the reception is bad ( " picture is a very strange colour, unwatchable in fact " )

try tuning first the cable station direct to the main TV.

b ) Is there any alternative audio out on the SKY except HDMI?

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

use these temporary just for determining if there is really sound from SKY

you can try it on Denon aux or on the TV audio in

if connecting direct to TV is OK, we will work on your plan,

connecting using HDMI to Denon then to TV ( HDMI )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

  • Rommel Cana

is there video on the TV?

    is there audio on Denon?

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

if there is HDMI out on the TV connect the other TV to it.

if none you will use the other video out of the TV if available

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

    or you will need :

    a ) a separate selector not splitter

b ) separate device allowing HDMI and Analog out ( if available )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

    like one of these

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

would you like to have the link to the splitter ? so you can use both?

    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

    what model is these splitter?

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

or try connecting the splitter before the Denon not after

or try connecting the splitter before the Denon not after

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

try connecting it before the Denon means,

From your original setup ( see your drawing ) there is only one arrow.

the arrow which goes to the TV , should go first to your Splitter ,

then from the splitter goes to your Denon. ( it will be inserted ) input

then from Denon out to your TV ( only one )

the other out of the splitter goes to the other TV ( 2 )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

    here is my suggestion

yellow box is the splitter, it goes to your Denon

from Denon green arrow goes to TV

    pink arrow to TV 2

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

    or like these

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

you can connect it to your vacant input , like aux

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

you can connect it on the arrow indicated

select CD on remote, to use

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

or like these one ( digital )

  • Rommel Cana
    Rommel Cana Feb 06, 2010

Flickering video with Denon AVR 1910

I had the same issue with my Denon AVR-1908.....It turned out to be the cable box, not the receiver. I would suggest you unplug your cable box, remove and reseat the cable card,HDMI cables, and finally the cable line itself. Make sure the wires are not frayed or otherwise pinched.

Good luck....

Just connected sky via hdmi through denon 3310 and no sound is coming through the tv. Also do i need to have amp on to view sky via hdmi?

ensure that HDMI is selected in your sky settings.

you would not need an amp at all just to view sky, only if you were routing sound to say a surround system.

Are you only getting no sound from the tv? or are you getting sound via the amp but not from the tv?

No audio running TV through Denon AVR 1910

I had the same problem. You're not doing anything wrong. the thing is you can't (I don't know why but the owner manual says it) have sound going to your tv AND your HT speakers when you're using HDMI. You should try going to input setup, choose hdmi audio out to your TV instead of the speakers, and then run an optical cable from your satellite to your receiver, assigning it to the TV/Cable input.

Hi with my denon avr 1908 can i run video through HDMI cable and sound trough Coaxial cable so i can get 5.1 surround from my sky HD box

you can get 5.1 using HDMI connection.
other wise in the set up you can configure the denon to not use the hdmi audio and configure that input to use coaxial or optical all digital inputs allow for 5.1 once all connections are made on the front of the unit find the input mode button and select auto

Set up surround sound with the following

YOU CAN ONLY GET 5.1 FROM THE OPTICAL OUTPUT ON THE SKY BOX NOT THE HDMI
SO CONNECT YOUR SKY BOX OPTICAL TO TV OPTICAL

PLZ LET ME KNOW IF THIS HELPS
