Unfortunately the touchpad of most laptops is very sensitive. This will cause the slightest nudge of the thumb or wrist to move your mouse and possibly even "click". In order to avoid this issue and associated frustration, I always 1) disable the touchpad when I have an external mouse plugged in and 2) disable the "tap click" feature. Follow the instructions below for these two suggestions.

Disable touchpad

  1. On my system there is a small button just above the touchpad that disables it, yours might as well. If not, go to Start>Control Panel> Mouse>Device Settings>and Device. Highlight the Disable Button.
  2. Follow the same steps as above but instead of Disable button select Device button and select the Tapping option and unselect "enable tapping".
Good Luck,

This is very common on laptops. It happens when your hand inadvertantly taps the touchpad while typing, which it reads as a mouse click. If you have a little icon in your system tray (lower right) right click it and bring up the options menu. De-select "tap to click" or soething along those lines. If you do not have that icon (it looks like a little touchpad, and if you move the mouse around with it there is probably a little blue dot moving around there to indicate activity) then go to the HP website and download the touchpad drivers (most likely Synaptics Touchpad Driver or something along those lines).

Cursor jumping

I have had this same issue. I realized one day that the palm of my hand was touching the track pad intermittently. Some of the HP laptops have super sensitive track pads. Mine actually has a button that disables it for typing. let me know, if this helps.

I have an Acer laptop. While typing the cursor suddenly jumps up a couple of lines, or suddenly may highlight a phrase, causing instant erasure of the previously typed material. Why does cursor continually...

your palm might be hitting the touchpad causing your mouse cursor to move and jump around... try to type with only your fingers hitting the keys and the back of your hand raised and not hitting any part of your laptop... hope this helps....

I am having a problem when I type and the cursor moving

This happens when your hands get to close to the palmrest and your wrists are actually causing the cursor to jump to another spot. Go to the control panel > mouse> settings > highlight the touchpad listed and select the settings button. Look through the entries and there is a setting for palmrest sensitivity. Turn down the sensitivity so your hands and wrists don't trigger a cursor movement. The hardware and drivers are fine, this is a setting adjustment.

Typing problem

the problem is where the mouse cursor is. When you begin to type have the mouse cursor as far down the page as possible the glide pad can pick up the slightest variant of pressure and move your text to the position where the mouse cursor is.
