You can't fix it in add remove, this removes the drive that is installed.

Either go to who made your computer, or the motherboard MFG,
and download the sound drive, and install it. Restart windows,
if this does not work, go to control panel, and open sound, make sure the
port that you have your speakers in is turned on.

If you have more details of what happened and what you did, if this doesn't work, or I didn't understand what your saying, post back and we will try to help.

Sorry typing to fast, you need the sound driver, you can also go to devise MGR,

    1. Click on the Start Orb.

    2. In the Start Search box type: device manager and then press enter
      and you
should see something similar to the below example.

Click on the plus sign at sound, now you will see the sound hardware, right click on it and click on update driver software, then search the web, if it does not find a driver you will have to do the first thing I said.

I removed software for Soundmax using Windows Add/Remove programs, and have lost my sound. Is there any other solution than finding the original CD?

You probably need the driver. Get it from here

No soundmax audio present.

I need to ask. Do you have two speakers showing? One fat red one and one gray one as you usually see on computers everywhere?
Try this either way.
Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Volume Control and make sure you don't have a check mark in your Master Volume control found on the far left.
Are you using a Desktop or laptop?

Sound device

Do you still have the MB CD with all the drivers still with you, if so then run that CD once. Secondly soundmax has many versions running so look for the driver that was released during the time you bought your PC. Many a time you got to manually add the hardware and then its driver for it to function properly....................sodeep

I have the Soundmax eq symbol but it won't appear.

If you go to Add/Remove programs, and click on Windows Components, try uninstalling or disabling the UPnP Devices. Sometimes just hiding UPnP devices in the My Network Places folder can also solve the problem and should be tried first

Soundmax

I don't know if you manually erase those drivers, but I recommend you reinstall the drivers with the setup option, then uninstall them, again reinstall them ans see if work, or depending the OS if is Xp or Vista, ?

Dell speakers

Chances are that when you deleted Soundmax, you deleted the drivers as well. I am going to assume that you 'deleted' the "Soundmax" entry from your Add/Remove Programs console or chose "Uninstall" from the Soundmax folder in your start menu.

The problem is not your speakers. The problem is the audio hardware. I'm willing to bet that you don't have any drivers installed for your Soundmax audio hardware.

More often than not, when you uninstall the software for your audio hardware, it also removes the drivers for the audio hardware.

I would try re-downloading the drivers for your Soundmax hardware and reinstall them.

Soundmax Drivers:
http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/3312/

I am also aware that this Soundmax chip was licensed to a different company by Realtek. (They designed the chip.) You can also try the Realtek AC'97 audio chip drivers. There may be a few differences in the way the software works, though. Here you go:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=23&PFid=23&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false#AC

I myself would recommend the Realtek Drivers. However, I also have an experience with this particular chipset where I installed the drivers in Windows XP Service Pack 1 or below and they worked just fine. But if I installed the drivers in Windows XP Service Pack 2, the system just reboots itself over and over again unless I use Safe Mode and uninstall the drivers.

Instead of fighting with that issue, however... I just put in a different soundcard and deactivated the onboard audio hardware in the motherboard's BIOS.

Just a heads up on that...

Good luck with this. Let us know what happens if you need more help.
