Question about Webroot Spy Sweeper 3 (667208652105) for PC

1 Answer

Spy Sweeper purchased in July, 2009 will not work with Windows 7.

I bought Webroot Spy Sweeper in July 2009 to use with Microsoft Vista. I now have upgraded to Windows 7 and find that my Webroot software won't work. Can you please tell me how I might solve this problem so that I'm able to use my Webroot program? Thank you.

Ms Mason,

With Windows 7 there comes an improved Compatibility feature which allows you to run programs apparently not functional in Windows 7. In order to do this, please install the program as usual, making sure to tell the installation program to install a desktop icon. When it is finished, right click on the icon and select properties. The next window has a tab called compatibility. Click this tab and select Run program in... and select Windows Vista or Windows XP SP3 (either should work). I would also set it to run as administrator. See graphic below.

If the program wont install at all, than explore the CD and do the same process with the "setup.exe" program on the CD.

Good Luck,

I have installed Windows 7 and trying to install McAfee 2010 and the install will not complete because of a message that Spy Sweeper conflicts with McAfee. How can I uninstall spy sweeper? It is not listed...

Go to Start/Run and enter regedit hit the Enter key.
Go to:
HKEY LOCAL MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/WINDOWS/CURRENTVERSION/UNINSTALL

Look for any entries in that key that pertain to webroot or spysweeper and delete them. be very careful to only delete those entries and none of the others.

Or
You may also see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Webroot

In that REG_SZ . Delete this entry and restart your pc .. now you can install mcfeee

We got a new pc windows 7 and i need to get webroot spysweeper put in this pc the other one is shut down at this time we renewed with you in nov. 2009 thanks joyce griffith

Windows 7 has "Windows Defender" built-in.
It does many of the same things that SpySweeper does.

So, my recommendation: do *NOT* try to install SpySweeper, because it's not needed, especially on a "fresh" install of Microsoft Windows.

I need driver update for my Webroot Spy Sweeper with Antivirus to make it work with Windows 7. I can't find where to get them on your site?

The driver isn't the problem, your version of the Webroot is - it's incompatible to Win 7.
Get the new version  http://www.webroot.com/En_US/consumer-products-antivirus.html?WRSID=3d790ba983c5fccf5b52599947ae46cb

Compatability issue

On Feb. 12, 2008, Microsoft released an update that fixed the recent compatiblity issues between Windows Vista and Webroot Antivirus/Spy Sweeper that were a result of a previous Windows Jan. 8, 2008 update.
Recommended Fix:
To fix this issue, update your copy of Windows Vista with the latest updates available as of 2/12/2008. For many users, Windows Vista will update automatically at its next scheduled time, but the update is also available as a manual download. See below for instructions on how to update Windows Vista.
We also recommend updating your copy of Webroot Antivirus/Spy Sweeper. The latest version does not experience any compatibility issues and it is generally recommended that you update your software to the latest version in order to ensure maximum security and protection of your PC.

Error states Spy Sweeper is not compatible with 64-bit operating systems.

This from the Webroot Web site on supported operating systems:

Windows Vista® (32-bit versions of Home Basic, Premium, Business, or Ultimate), Vista SP1 (32- and 64 bit versions of (Home Basic, Premium, Business, or Ultimate).

So, assuming you have bought the latest Spysweeper (and assuming you have Vista 64 bit) , then you need to upgrade your Vista to SP1.
