Hi,

With the indulgence of micromaster, otacon, IB4G2008 and sweet_rascal...

Based on your post, I will assume that:
1. basically the TV works except for certain issues with the OSD (on screen menu/display);
2. you are using the original remote that came with the unit and there is nothing wrong with it also.

If that is a fair assumption, then you would need to update the firmware of your TV. It would seem that you still have the 1st version with some bugs which have been ironed out in their latest firmware that includes OSD problems. A bit tricky to do though.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

turn off the system, for at least 5 min, and then, try it on manual mode..without remote..

Panasonic Viera TC-P50G10 is only able to turn on and off . No other buttons on the remote or the set itself will do anything.

These are intermittent problems possibly due to loose contacts in power outlet, power cord, RC jacks, cables, sockets etc. You have to first of all change the input device to something that works and see. If problem persists, some qualified service technician has to look inside for dry solder, leaky or dry capacitors etc.

How to know what numbers mean that are in the black box in middle of screen?

This could be one of several different problems. The MOST common cause of complaints of characters appearing in a black box in center of screen that we see @ my service center is due to customer having the "text" option of the closed-captioning feature enabled (often, inadvertently; navigating the on-screen menus and employing the multiple feature options of modern TV's can be problematic for even the most well-versed of us!); the user can readily tell if this is the source of the complaint by noting whether the characters displayed change from channel to channel, as they will if the display in question is simply the text function of closed-captioning. It is also possible that the display is an indication of the unit being in the "service mode", which is a feature employed by service technicians in diagnosing & repairing the set. More descriptive information on exactly what is being displayed---i.e., the size of the box being seen, exactly what characters are shown, etc.---would be helpful in determining just what this problem is about...perhaps p2412 could post a picture of what is being displayed?
