52" SHARP LCD getting a snowy picture after 5 to 10 minutes

My 52" SHARP LCD TV gets a snowy image after it is on for around 10 minutes. If I switch the input from TV to DVD then to computer I get the same effect so I think it is not the cable. I am thinking it is a cold solder joint on a part inside the TV but witch one? When I first got the TV the snow would show up but then it went away. For 4 months the TV was fine but now the snow is back. When I tap the back a little the snow will flicker. Any ideas what part this might be? I am also looking for a service manual so I can fix the problem myself.

Sharp will not fix this problem because it was bought at Costco and I am not the original owner. Luck I am a bit of a tech and I have tracked the problem down. I put a fan on the inverter board and the problem went away. I will open the protective

I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!!! My 52" was doing the same thing. It would work and then picture will go to snow and no inputs worked, the remote didn't even work! I would have to power everything down (Reciever, PS3, etc.) then it would work but no telling how long. Even touching the TV where the buttons are made it go to snow!! THIS IS WHAT YOU DO. Take the back cover off. Where the side buttons are, there is a board in there and it is touching the metal frame. Take something like a credit card and cut it enough so that it will not be sticking out, get some electrical tape and anchor the card to the metal frame so it will not fall out of place. You're basically protecting the board from touching the frame!! Put the back side back on and screw in place and your all set. My TV has been working perfectly ever since.

These sets are notorious for bad inverter boards and bad video processor boards.Sharp is well aware of the problem, and will fix the units if you push the issue. They have fixed these ynits out of warranty with a smile. This is a issue with defective parts not connections

Snowey on scrreen

Hi there,

I've been repairing TV's for over 15 years and I would say either a bad Tcon's or main board issue. Theirs no need to replace capacitors these days, you can get the main board from $40-60.
Have you tried using different devices on the unit? If your getting a snowy picture on a satellite receiver, check with your provider for troubleshooting guide their unit. Or let me know the provider and I can lead in you right direction.

Thanks,
Jason

We have a new 46" Sharp Aquos with a "snowy"

sounds like you have a cable connection problem make sure your tv is set to dtv signal in the menu screen. when you scan the channels should be displayed as 12.1 or 8.2 not just a single number if the digital channels are programmed correctly then change the cable coming into the tv from antenna making sure that it isnot crossing any power wires good luck and hope that i helped

New tv connected to cable, suppose to have 52

Hello,
With the cable securely connected to your new TV, go into the Menu setup features and tell the set to AutoProgram all cable channels. It will then search for every signal. This will take a few minutes but give it some time to scan,
If it cannot find anything then you do not have a proper cable or antenna signal.
Cheers

No sound on analog channels

Grab your sharp remote and press MENU, arrow over to SETUP, arrow down to RESET and press enter and follow that prompt to reset the unit. Once that is complete turn the tv off and unplug ONLY the tv for one minute then plug it back in. Then turn the tv on and see if you have channels, if you do, your audio should work on you analog stations, if you have no channels and all you see is a snowy picture do the following press MENU, arrow over to SETUP...arrow down to CH SETUP and press ENTER...you will then be at a screen that says AIR/CABLE, press ENTER, select CABLE or CABLE(STD) if that option is available to you. after then, arrow down to CH SEARCH, press ENTER, then you should be highlighted on ANALOG AND DIGITAL SEARCH...press ENTER and wait for 15-30 minutes ( or until you get a picture back) and make sure you DO NOT press any buttons or turn the tv off and you should be good. good luck 2 u

Snowy Picture

You could have a bad spitter or a fitting could have come loose.First thing to do is to take another TV set right next to the bad TV set and plug in the cable to the other TV set to see if the same issue happens. If it does there is a cable issue. If it does not have a snowy picture, then you should call the store where you purchaced the set for exchange or service. Good Luck
