Question about HP OfficeJet d145 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

We haven't used our printer in awhile as it was out of ink. We put new ink cartridges in and our pages that we are trying to copy are coming out as blank pages. Not sure what to do.

Ink not coming through, havnt used it for bout 2 years, i have cheaked and there is ink there but its not come through when im trying to copy

Since you mention ink. The chances are that the printhead is clogged with dry ink. To attempt to clear the clogged head, you will have to remove the printhead (remove ink cartridges, remove printhead from carrier). Soak the printhead in a bath of warm (not hot) distilled water overnight. After the soaking of the printhead, dry the printhead with a clean lintfree cloth (dab the printhead carefully so you do not damage the printhead or electronic contacts). Reinstall the printhead and ink cartridges and test. You may have to do this a number of times depending upon the amount of dried ink.
The alternative is to buy a new printhead for the printer. If you want to go this direction, let me know the manufacturer and model of the printer and I can help you find a supplier.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks.

I replaced all of the cartridges with Epson, but the black won't print. After some nozzle checks, black is getting low and STILL no black printing occurring... what going on? Now the other colors are...

Nozzle cleaning uses a lot of ink, that's probably why the other ink cartridges are registering low on ink. Are you using refilled cartridges or brand new? Also, have you had the cartridges for awhile? I've found that the nozzles can become clogged either from not using the printer for awhile or because it's a recycled cartridge that didn't have the nozzles cleaned before it was refilled. When that happens, unfortunately, sometimes it takes a lot of cleaning cycles before the printing comes back. Let me know more about the cartridges you have.

Copier appears to be functioning well, but page comes out blank

You actually answered your own question, you said it started fading and came out with lines missing. Looks like and could possibly be that the ink cartridge you are using wasn't as full as you thought it was, and the computer really has no idea, it's just software and i do not recall seeing sensors on the inside of the ink tank to tell the computer how much ink is in the cartridge. Try refilling the ink again or maybe a better idea is to buy a new cartridge since over time the cartridges can get contaminants in them which will block the ink from the inside of the cartridge.
Hope this helps

My black ink ran out so I replaced the ink

Hi:
I have used the printer series that you have for years, and once in awhile, I get a new cartridge that won't immediately print. Often, there is just a bit of dried ink residue on the print head, and that won't allow the cartridge to work correctly.

Some simple things to try are :

1) Remove the black cartridge. and take a damp paper towel and gently swab the print head area. Next, apply some pressure to the sides of the black cartridge, until you see black ink oozing out of the print head. Repeat if needed. Once the ink starts flowing, blot off the excess, and install the cartridge.

If you can't get ink to flow, then the cartridge might be bad. Most of them have an expiration date on the packaging.

HP Photosmart C4480 won't print

I had almost the same exact problem. Left the printer unused for a month or so, came back, no black ink being printed, even though the level was still sufficient.
What I did, was boiled a small pot of water, and held the black ink cartridge over the steam, about 3-4 inches above the boiling water, for 2 increments of about a minute. Try not to burn your hand or cook the cartridge lol. I wiped the cartridge head with a piece of paper periodically until I noticed a good bit of dark ink on the paper, then gently wiped the condensation off of the cartridge with a paper towel so as not to put a wet cartridge back in my printer. Put it back in the printer and voila!
Works great so far, although I can't vouch for the long term effects of this solution. I did look at the cartridge a bit later to make sure it wasn't leaking, and it wasn't. You have to steam it the right amount of time. I would guess that the printer cartridge head will inevitably dry out again with limited use. I'm hoping that it will keep working though haha. Hope this helps anyone else with this problem.

Red will only print on test page.

So what you need to do is clean the cartridge from the printer toolbox..do all the three steps cleaning..(clean cartridge, prime cleaning, intermediate cleaning)..
once the cleaning is done..try to make a copy..if its still the same..change both the ink cartridge and then try to make a copy..if it resolves the issue then cartridge is defective..if it does not resolve the issue then printer is defective..

Photocopying

According to " HP Officejet R, PSC 500 and Color Copier - General Copying Issues and Solutions", under the problem heading "Black is not Black", notes that:

"The unit will perform mono (or black) copies using the color cartridge to create a composite black in Normal and Best modes. This is necessary to create the correct grayscale shades. NOTE: The HP PSC 500 all-in-one product cannot perform black copies. Scan the image in and print it out in greyscale.

The color cartridge may be out of one color of ink. Run a self-test page to verify that all the colors are there. Replace the cartridge if they are not."

In other words, the device only uses the black ink cartridge when used as a computer printer. When used as a stand-alone copier, it uses the color ink cartridge, and all three ink colors must be present and working to give a black and white copy. Perhaps you can refill the color cartridge with black ink in all chambers?
