Question about Kenmore Washing Machines

1 Answer

The knob that chooses the cycle is stripped and it doesnot click to start the cycle. The washing machine is 20 years old and very reliable. This is my only problem. Should I just buy a new one or fix this? Living in a warm climate I do a lot of wash. Need advice ASAP. Mahalo, Toni

You can replace the knob easily and with little cost. You will need the model and serial number of the unit. You will also need to know exactly what parts you will need to completely repair your unit. The older machines are very well built, and dependable.Usually inexpensive to use for many years.

Those washers are trash...they are cheaply made and are not reliable as old washers are...this is why i urge everyone to fix there old washers because its impossible to find reliable appliances anymore. it sounds like a stripped/slipping gear drive system to me, which is typical of those washers...

Ariston A1635 Margherita Control knob spinning

According to the instruction book - it appears the machine has been stopped mid cycle then re-started.
Switch machine off, turn control knob to a solid circle symbol (they are after every set cycle). Switch machine back on and lights will flash and program is reset. You can then select wash cycle as normal.

Kenmore model 110.24642300 will not cycle through wash cycles...will stay stuck in wash cycle until the knob is manually turned to rinse/spint/etc. Would this be a bad knob or timer or both? Thanks!

Start a cycle and remove the knob. If it still stays in agitation mode and won't advance to the spin, then you have a bad timer, or no power to the timer motor(very unlikely). If your washer goes through the cycles with the knob off then you have a bad timer knob. I have seen stripped knobs causing the timer to bind up and not advance. Good Luck Appliance Specialists

Noisy wash cycle

if it's 10 year old it's not worth repairing if the transmission is bad.  However, if it's only the $20 coupler that connects the motor to the transmission.  Fix it.

Maytag commercial washer gets to spin cycle and stops

It sounds like your timer is defective

FIX

When the machine gets to the rinse cycle slowly advance the setting to manually advance the timer
if it just sits bang on the panel or around the knob and listen if ou hear the timer start ticking you will need to replace it

Timers are avaliable from appliance parts suppliers around $29 you can get someone to install it or if you are handy can do it yourself

good luck
