Question about Kenmore 22.0 cu. ft. Side-By-Side Refrigerator with Filtered Ice and Water

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore side by side Model No. 363.9565522. Noticed water dripping out of front of freezer onto floor - this has happened periodically over the lifetime of the side by side. Slid bottom freezer tray out and noticed a sheet of ice on the floor of the freezer. Also noticed ice adjacent to drain hole. I removed all of the ice using hot water, blow dryer, etc. and poured some hot water dow drain hole. Two weeks later, water is again dripping out of freezer. While removing ice again, I noticed small droplets of water appearing (falling) on the back plastic wall above the trough that leads to the drain plug. Not sure if this was because the freezer door was open or another problem. Removed all the ice last night and again poured hot water down plug. It was recommended that I buy a Whirlpool kit. - I called about the kit and will try and pick it up next week - as I understand it, the bar will attach to the heater coil and insert into the drain. Looking at the freezer, I noticed that the ice is building up adjacent to the drain along the trough. I inserted a pipe cleaner down the drain to see if there was a clog, and it went in about 6-8 inches. If the drain is not clogged, then why is the ice building up along the trough? If I buy the kit, should I position the bar outside of the drain to heat the buildup of ice so it will flow into the drain? I've taken pictures, but I don't see how to upload them.

    Thanks.

Last night, I used a turkey baster and blasted hot water down the drain. I looked this morning and the ice has started to build up again adjacent to the drain and all along the trough. The drain is completely clear, so I'm still puzzled why the ice continues to build up. Someone suggested that maybe the freezer wasn't defrosting long enough to allow the ice to melt. I'll continue to watch it and buy the kit on Monday. Positioning the stem into the drain hole doesn't seem as though that will melt the ice along the trough, but I'll try.

The drain heater goes into the drain, not outside it.
You need a longer drain probe to push all the way through the drain.
Look underneath for a kink in the drain tube.

You may have excess water. Check the icemaker water spout and cuber for leaks.
You can make a drain heater from a length of bare copper wire. You wrap one end around the defrost heater. The other end goes into the drain hole.

Model 795.71013.010 drip pan is full and leaking onto floor

Those models have problems with the defrost drain and defrost drain tube becoming blocked. Have you noticed water buildup on the floor of the freezer? See item 105A that is the drain tube.

That drain may have come unblocked because the refrigerator was off long enough for this ice to completely melt overflowing the ice trough seen in the video.

Water is dripping into pan under fridge and overflowing onto floor. looks like water is dripping from filter at bottom. what can i do?

Check to see looks like the container is already full. You have to remove the tray full of water and then insert it again. It will happen again and again ( overflowing water) so you need to periodically check the container pan if water is full.
Also by checking periodically that pan, you will minimize rust build up. You will need to wipe around it with soft cloth or rags so the body of your refrigerator will not decaying due to rust built up. This will destroy the metal parts of the fridge.
Good luck.

Kenmore side by side water leaking from freezer

You can buy a kit from whirlpool. In the kit is a metal tab that mounts onto the defrost heater. It is long enough to go into the hole. When the heater comes on for defrost the heat transfers down to the hole and keeps it from getting plugged up with ice. Part number 819043

I have a top freezer model and every morning their is a small pool of water in front on the floor. I checked the bottom tray in the back and drip tube and they seem to be ok. I noticed in the door that...

These doors are not water cooled. Is there water in the drip pan? Likely not and the drain is froze over with ice. you will have to remove the rear panel inside the freezer and clean the drain. There is most likely ice under the freezer floor that needs removed also. Take your time and do not damage the styrofoam separator and air channels.

this could either be a blocked drain from the freezer not allowing defrost water to escape or the defrost heater failing to turn on due to a faulty defrost heater or defrost timer not enabling the water to escape
