I would try to operate the set with some other signal to it if possible-even a DVD or Blue Ray or game--if it works that way I would suspect you have a bad set top box and need if you have already rebooted it to replace it.

Let me know as much about the actual model number of the TV set--Lock up of the image on screen suggests a problem with the box and not the set.

The more you tell me the better the chance I can assist you.

I am in California and available here from noon til after 10 pm daily Pacific Time.

Very simple--if it works with something else connected--problem is not the set but the signal it is getting--put bad petrol in your car and it does not run right etc.

G'day and if I can help let me know. I am here to help.

Neal, if it works with other things hooked up that only leaves the bush box and signal you are getting from it.

Most likely and commonly you have a bad capacitor in the tv. It will have to be tested with a volt/ohmmeter to find out which one is the bad one. You will have to access the bottom of the circuit board and the solder joint connection to find the capacitor that is not in range as the others. Most are 25-30 ohms and 5 volts of power. But just find the one that is not in range as the others that are the same size to find the faulty cap.

Interesting. Do you get a pic with the dvd player? Does it just not have picture with tv? It could be a bad flyback or capacitor. It's harder to tell without a repair manual. I have not found a free one as of yet, but I'll keep looking.

My channel 7 keeps freezing and comes up with no signal sometimes for days when it's though my my bush digital recorder box. But when it's just though the tv channel 7 works fine. What's going on??

Different digital boxes and tv's have different levels of RF gain. Some need more signal and some need less to work efficiently.
Possibly your Bush pvr needs a much stronger signal than your tv so the available signal is permanently on the threshold of reception and atmospheric conditions will some of the time reduce the available signal when reception will become impossible for the box but still be above the threshold for the tv set.

Modern Bush is not reknown for being a high quality brand and the purchasers of budget brand pvr's often discover reception or performance problems in fringe signal areas. Because a single aerial must receive a very wide range of frequencies it will be more efficient for some channels than others and so one channel could be a fringe channel and another channel produce a very strong frequency.

The signal strength and quality can be checked for each channel by selecting options in the menu in order to check this theory.

The problem might be solved by replacing the Bush pvr with a premium brand or replacing your aerial for a more efficient type. One of my friends had five different boxes before he gained a satisfactory performance and another friend three boxes and still has problems.
My installation has a new high gain wideband aerial on top of my 3 storey house and a distribution amplifier in the loft to keep the input lead short and the whole lot connected by very good quality double-wrapped co-ax.
I had to add different amounts of attenuation for each box or tv set but in spite of the signal being on average too strong and needing attenuating there are still channels for which the aerial is not as efficient and providing only a weak signal.

Black screen

Possible causes
  • Your TV is not receiving or displaying the signal from your DIRECTV® Receiver.
  • Your receiver has correct guide information, but is not processing video correctly.
  • You are viewing a channel where an upcoming sporting or special event is scheduled or has recently ended.

Solutions
  • Turn TV off and on.
  • Make sure light on front panel of receiver is lit.
  • Press the "TV/DSS" button on the remote control or front panel of the receiver (not all receivers have this option).
  • Reset the receiver by unplugging the power cord for 15 seconds.
  • Check all cable connections between the dish, receiver and TV.

If the picture is black, but the program title and description display in a banner the top of the screen:
  • If the problem is only occurring on a few channels, check the detailed description of the program through the on–screen guide on those channels. Often, we display a blank screen with a banner before and after a high–profile event to alert customers about the event.
  • Reset the receiver by turning off and unplugging the power cord for 15 seconds.
  • Run a signal meter test to check your signal strength (press "menu" and look under "setup" or "installation").

If your signal strength is below 70 (or below 60 on HD receivers) in clear weather on transponders 1 and 2, see our troubleshooting steps for "Searching for satellite signal. Please stand by." You may see zero strength on transponders 4, 12, 18, 20, 26 and 28. This is normal in many areas. Your system manual shows how to run cables and point your dish.

Samsung HDTV model HLR5067W screen flickers when some commercials play other commercials are ok when viewing. Could this be my HD set top box or a cable?

If the TV works well with your dvd and regular programs there are no issues and the flickers due to commercials can be due to excess signal strength or even poor control from the set top box.
Try with another set top box to confirm as some of them can process noise which can cause this issue.

I have a Strong SRT 5066 Set top Box. I can't pick up any HD channels. Is this box HD compatible or do I need to buy a HD Box?

Just add the same problem. You need a HD set top box, supplied by your cable co. Your picture quality will depend on the strength of the HD signal. If you have correct box and signal, you may need to double click your remote select button to activate HD channels/

I do auto programing some chanels get program some don't

Hello
Check first your set top box's, or TVs antenna or ariel connection is tight or not. It it is Ok, if you are receiving signals from cable, ask the cable operator to check the signal strength at the cable end of your home. It is measure with a 'db' meter. If the strength of the received signal is very weak, the same channels should not mamorized, and strong signal channels only will lock in. If you are using external antena, try to reorient its postion.
Anyway your TV doesn't get sufficient signal strength.

My analogue tv doesn't do anything when connected to the new set top box. The scart is connected and the aerial also. Are there some anologue tv's that can't receive the digital signal? I already have 1...

Have you checked that your aerial is connected into the set top box & not into the TV? The aerial signal has to go into the set top box & then the box will be connected via your Scart cable into the TV. On the TV you will need to select the Scart input ie. AV1. This should give you the set top box incoming signal, you might then have to tune in the box by following the on screen instructions. Hope this help.

Picture and sound problem

If your getting your signal via a satelite receiver or HD cable box, its likely that the sound dropouts and picture freeze are the result of marginal signal strength. Does the TV ever do this when using a DVD player? If not, its certainly the quality of the signal.

If the TV is at fault, the problem will be on the digital board.

Ensure the set top box is set to the correct video out. Probably RGB if scart lead or CVBS if coax lead.

LG LST-5100P set top box. Several times a day have

cap-grant, my friend has the same problem with set top box. When I phone maker I was told it is due to poor and weak signal. You must have 80% signal strength to maintain good picture. When signal strength dropped picture would freeze and had to be turned off at the power point to restart as nothing would work. So I guess what my experience says is you may need better aerial to boost signal and prevent dropout Leonard210
