Question about Canon EOS 400D / Rebel XTi Digital Camera

1 Answer

No power I purchased a Canon 400D about a year ago and shortly afterwards the camera suddenly gave up on me. I took a couple of photos and then nothing. The battery was fully charged and the power light came on when the camera was switched on and remained on even when the camera was switched off. I was going to take the camera in to a service centre a few weeks later for repairs but when I switched the cameraon again, the problem seemed to have disappeared. Since then I have been taking photos without ay problems until yesterday when the same thing happened again... one photo and then nothing. Again the battery has been fully charged. Not too sure what to do. Please help!

I have the same problem. Bought the camera approx' a year ago. Haven't used it in about 3 months. Took a few snaps yesterday and then, nothing! When I switched the camera off, the green light remained on and only extinguished when the battery was taken out. I charged the battery fully and the same thing happened. Battery idicator on the camera screen showed full, before it lost power. Is it just a battery problem or can anyone help me? Thank you, Dermot...

This definitely looks like an issue with the Camera. I suggest contacting the Camera Tech Support immediately and request them to send the Camera to the service center. There are more Canon Rebel XTi owners, including me have experienced no-power issues albeit not exactly similar. More discussed here: http://www.fixya.com/support/t270989-xti_wont_power_up

I also do not think that any user action can fix this issue. Just call the tech support, and they may say that they never heard of this issue, please point them to this thread. Good luck.

Canon 400d not starting

While there may be a number of causes of no power, the usual one is that the bottom right screw that holds on the back circuit board has come out and has shorted out a section of the circuit. Usually it blows the 'P' fuse on the front board, but depending upon were the screw ends up it could blow the flash and drive boards or damage a section of the rear main board.

Also check to make sure you do not have bent CF pins - if the center power pins are bent and touch other pins they might blow the circuit. Usually this blows the 'K' fuse under the lower right shield plate on the rear circuit.

Computer does not recognize my canon eos rebel xti 400D

You can download the driver aand reinstall it from this link: http://www.nodevice.com/driver/EOS_400D/get37008.html Make sure your existing Canon software, if any, is removed before installing the new driver. If this doesn't work you can always purchase a card reader and extract your photos directly from the memory card.

How do you get to the video mode on the canon 400d rebel xti

There is no video mode on the Xti. The first Canon Digital Rebel to be equipped with video was the T1i, which came out almost 5 years later (2 years ago).

I bought a FujiFilm FinePix S1600 one month ago. I used it for couple of times and was working fine. Then suddenly I couldn't switch it on. When I press the power on just flashes and it is not switched on....

The sounds like a systems control board problem, or the systems control has detected an issue with the camera. The only option is to return it to the place of purchase for repair or exchange.

My Canon EOS 400D won't switch on. No power.

Have you tried cleaning the battery contacts in the camera with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol? Are the batteries also 3 years old?

Gosh Megz, That's prolly more than anyone wants to type. Go to the Library or a book store. I'll try to explain white balance for you. Inside the camera is a program that evaluates the light during exposure. It tries to determine what is white and adjust the other colors in the photos accordingly by adjusting tint and temperature. Your eyes and brain do this for you. If you have a tripod try taking a photo in automatic mode and write down what the shutter speed and f stop was for that photo. Adjust your camera to those settings manually and take the same photo over. This way you will get a consistent photo to look at. Then change your color balance to different settings like daylight, cloudy, shade, tungsten (which is incandescent lighting) and fluorescent and view the difference in colors after you download to your image viewer on your computer. You'll think you went back to the late 60's.

The camera is working again. I took out the battery, with the the on/off switch, off. I then swtiched the On/Off switch On. I then put the battery in ,and the camera turned on.It then gave me an ERROR 99. I then switch it off and on again, and it is still working.

Menu Problem

Did you try calling Canon tech support or returning to retailer if the camera is really not functioning properly this soon after purchase, I'd try returning it once all troubleshooting issues have not resolved the issue.

Hope this helps!

Is my canon eos 400d broken?

This is a Digital SLR With SLR cameras you can only use the viewfinder because the image comesi nto the lens and up to the viewfinder via a mirror. When to take a pic the mirror flips up[usually with a crash] and the image goes to the CCD- afterwards you will get an image briefly in the LCD.
