To make sure we are talking about the same thing; A display adapter is a graphics adapter card, or for short; Graphics Card. What graphics card is it? Manufacturer and Model Number. Has to be a PCI style of graphics card, to fit in a white PCI slot on your motherboard. Did you receive it new? You should have the Installation CD disk with it then. This disk also contains the Drivers necessary for the graphics card. A Driver is a small piece of software, that allows the Operating System to 'communicate' with a device. [Windows XP is an example of an O/S. Operating System. A Graphics Card is an example of a Device] 1) Start your computer with the monitor plugged into the VGA port, on the back of your computer. (Just like always) After Windows has fully loaded, and any additional Start Menu programs, put the graphics card's installation CD in your optical drive. Follow the instructions, and load the software. 2) If you are asked if you wish to restart your computer, the answer is NO. Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen. Shut your computer down normally. Now unplug your computer from power. (Always unplug from the surge protector, and not out of the back of the computer. {Power Supply} Unplug all cables to your computer. If you are not familiar with where they go, make yourself a drawing with notes. Remove the left side cover of your computer case. {Looking at the back of your computer, there is a Cover Release Latch for the Left side cover. It is about one-third the way up, on the outside edge. Pull down on it, and keep it in the down position. Now put your fingers in the indents on the side of the case cover, and pull the cover towards the rear} 3) BEFORE you reach inside your computer, AND before you take that graphics card out of it's anti-static bag, TOUCH the metal frame of the open computer case to relieve your body of Static electricity. 4) Now locate an unused PCI slot, (White in color. There are three of them) Locate the expansion slot cover that is in line with this PCI slot. Remove the cover off of the back of the computer, by removing the screw that holds it in place. Line the Notch on the bottom of the graphics card, up with the Locating Lug in the bottom of the PCI slot. Push the card straight down. Make SURE it is seated all the way. Use the screw you removed from the cover, to install the graphics card, IF it did not come with it's own. 5) Now close the computer case. Plug the monitor into the graphics card. Plug the computer into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

How do i find out witch display driver to disable so i can install new video card

You don't need to disable any driver, unplug, use ESD protection, install Graphics Card, move the monitor cable to the new card,(you may have to boot on the old monitor connection and install driver), install the driver for the new card and reboot plug into the new card. Do your windows updates to obtain the latest driver. You can open the Device Manager, open Display adapters and disable the Intel graphics adapter. Is it a PCI or AGP Graphics Card? Remember: with a Aftermarket Graphics Card it requires more Power/Watts, you should consider a PSU upgrade. You didn't post the Make, Model Graphics Card, usually there is a Min. Power Spec. for the card listed on the box.

Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

How do i know if my desktop has wifi

Assuming that you are using the Windows operating system, right click on the My Computer icon (on the desktop or in the Start menu).
Select Properties from the drop down list.
When the System Properties window opens, select the Hardware page tab then click on the Device Manager button.
In the Device Manager window, expand the Network adapters line (click on the + sign on the left) and look at what actual hardware adapters you have installed.
Most desktops do not normally have wireless adapters installed by default so you may only see any Firewire (1394) and Ethernet adapters.

An alternative approach to using the Device Manager would be to download and install a copy of the free Belarc Advisor utility which will take an inventory of your installed hardware and software, then display this in your default web browser. You can then look at what network adapters are installed that way too.

How to install an wirless adapter to mi desktop

Install a wireless network adapterIn areas that are served by a wireless network, you can connect to a computer network without using a cable, and surf the Internet or connect with other computers. To connect to a wireless network, your computer needs a wireless network adapter.
Many new computers-especially laptops-come with wireless adapters. Before using your computer, check to see if it already has a wireless network adapter.
If your computer doesn't have a wireless network adapter, you can install one.
Install a wireless USB network adapter. Most people prefer this type of adapter for any type of computer, because it's easy to install.
Install a wireless CardBus or CF network adapter. For portable computers, this type of adapter (also called a PCMCIA or PC Card) is easier to travel with than a USB adapter, because it is often smaller and fits securely in the PC Card slot on the side of the computer.
Install a wireless internal network adapter. If you have a desktop computer, you may prefer an internal adapter so that you can use the USB port to connect another accessory.
The type of adapter you install depends on your computer and your level of expertise.
How to determine if you already have a wireless network adapterMany portable computers manufactured after 2000 have wireless networking built in. However, because the antenna is hidden inside the computer, it's not easy to see.
To see which network adapters are currently installed in your computer
1.

Check the specs for your desktop and make sure the USB protocol will work with the adapter. You didn't say how old the desktop was, but my guess would be that the adapter requires USB 2.0 and may not work with earlier types. Make sure your desktop meets that criteria.

Make sure the adapter is compatible with whatever operating system is installed on your desktop and that it is up to date.

If your desktop has a front side USB connector, try connecting the adapter to a port on the back of the machine instead.

Many adapters require the installation of software before connecting the adapter. Make sure you are following the installation sequence properly.
