Question about Computers & Internet

Hi there, I wanted to install a fresh copy of xp into my laptop a Toshiba Satellite L300-07R. But I deleted my D drive that contained my Vista install. My question is, is there anyway of backing my hard drive up or recovering what I had losted. Confusing question I know, sorry.

You can get Un-delete software that works well Easeus is great and easy to use, it's NOT free though, but you still can use it, just not like the Full version. . You will have to do a lot of work though as it is far from automatic. But still easy to use. There is a couple of other free versions below.

You have several options:

1 Providing the VIsta install is still intact you could make a ghost image of it and store that off line on another drive, later if you decide to go back to Vista you could lay down the ghosed image and you would resume Vista as it was at the time the image saved.

2 A little more technical but gaining in popularity is using VM ware to make a virtual XP Machine that runs on your vista machine. To do that you need sufficient hard drive space and a good amount of RAM. Reccomend at least 4 gig on a laptop. Vista should be the primary OS and XP in the VM.

I personally have a laptop running Cent OS (Linux as the primary) with VM's of Vista 64 Business and XPP I would not suggest you take on Linux but it is very easy with Vista.

You might be able to restore some of the information, but since the partition has been deleted (and most likely partially overwritten) I wouldn't bet on it.

As far as I know, you can order a new restore disc from Toshiba that contains the factory image, that way you can use the 4-8GB of disk space it would normally take up.

Chat it up with Toshiba technical support, since you cannot order the discs directly from their website.

Good Luck!

I RUN BOTH XP AND VISTA ON THE SAME SYSTEM YOU ARE BEST TO PARTITION THE DRIVE AND PUT THEM IN SEPERATE SECTIONS, I USE XP FOR KIDS OLDER LEARNING PROGRAMS WITH 256 RESOLUTION AND UPTODATE PC ON VISTA SIDE. AFTER FDISK FORMATING DRIVE I FIRST INSTALLED XP IN PARTITION THEN UPGRADED WITH FRESH INSTALL OF VISTA TO SEPERATE DRIVE , WHEN BOOTS ASKS YOU WHICH START UP SYSTEM YOU NEED N U LOAD DRIVERS IN NORMAL WAY AND GET DRIVERS OFF INTERNET , U CAN USE VISTA SETUP TO GET DRIVERS PUT ON DONGLE THEN RELOAD ON XP AND LOAD DRIVERS.

YOU WILL HAVE TO ADD A PARTITION TO YOUR DRIVE IF GOT SPACE AND DONT WANT TO START FRESH.
THEN SEE IF XP CAN BE LOADED ONTO IT ILL TRY IT ON MY SYSTEM TO C IF LET U GO BACKWARDS RATHER THAN UPDATING

You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files.
