No, you can't. My suggestion that you use a third party, for forwarding your fax number to your email.

Brothers printer without a computer

If this is a Brother MFC-J470DW Inkjet, then it is possible to connect it to a wireless network. If you internet device is actually a "wireless router" as well as a modem (where cable or phone line connects) then you should be able to follow the manual in setting up the newtork on the printer. You may need a phone, iPad or other device that can browse the internet, to register the printer properly and complete setup. There should be a support number you can call for free (check your setup documents). Most companys are anxious to help new cutomers and give them step by step instructions. You can also try http://www.brother.ca/en/customer_care - there are several support option there.

NOTE:
If your internet modem is not a router and only has a wired connection for direct to a PC (a cable that has what looks like big phone jack ends), you would have to add a wireless router instead of a PC. This can be a complicated job, and beyond the scope of this answer.
This printer does support Google print, Apple AirPrint and other network printing (for phones, ipads etc) so once connected, it could be very useful. Brother Canada Customer Support

What is sequence of events when power plug is applied? it's a MFC-6890CDW Printer. Should a motor start? Should power on/off button light?

Hi. Did this just start or were you doing something prior to the failure. Sequence is usually very quiet. Unit will do a self diagnostic, then printer carriage should move from rest to a complete right/left travel. Stop then it will do a ink check you may hear a high pitch noise, it's charging cartridges. If your plugged into power strip, plug into single outlet. Check plug for burns also if your on Wi-Fi turn out off, repower up. Do same if you are on cable re start. Your not getting a code so it's something physical in printer.

There is no multi function suite in windows 8

I don't have proper idea..but you can try these steps:

1. Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

2. On the toolbar, click New Fax. If it's the first time you're sending a fax, you'll be prompted to complete the Fax Setup wizard.

3.When you're finished creating your fax, click Send.

Brother mfc-6890cdw won't turn on. No power at all. Is there a fuse?

I would imagine their is a fuse inside somewhere ,open it up and look around where the power cable comes in but first pull the power cable out and check for power on the end with a multimeter

The fax keeps ringing it does not pick up

This sounds like the FAX mode is not set properly.

Follow these steps.
Press Menu
Press up or down arrow until it displays "Initial Setup"
Select Initial Setup
Press up or down arrow until you see "Receive Mode"
Select Receive Mode
Select your choice: Fax Only, FAX/ Tel depending on your connection.

If your fax is connected to a telephone line that shares dial tone with a handset, choose FAX/Tel
Press STOP/Exit

The printer says its printing but blank

Hello.

If you haven't changed the cartridge lately, it's possible that the cartridge needs replacement.

But first, I'd suggest to go to Printers and Faxes, delete your printer icon.

Restart your workstation and reinstall the printer driver (software) for your Brother printer.

Hope this helps.

NO CONNECTION (LAN) on Brother MFC-440CN

I had the SAME problem. I have 3 pc laptops and 1 Mac. The Mac could still print, but the pc's were hosed. I called BrotherUSA and this fixed the problem!

Go to your printer and after making sure it's connected to the network with the Ethernet cable, go to Menu > Print Reports > Network Config. This will print a page that shows your printer's IP address. We need to config that address in your Printer, Fax and Scanner settings in Control Panel.

Go to Control Panel > Printers & Faxes. Right click on your printer > Properties > Ports tab. Click Add Port and select Standard TCP/IP Port. Click New Port and click Next on the wizard. Enter the IP address of your printer in the first field (the second one will auto-fill). Click Next and Finish. Printer's done!

Right click on your PC-FAX in Printers & Faxes and Properties. Click on the ports tab and just check the box that you just created for Standard TCP/IP Port. Click OK. Fax is done!

Go back to Control Panel and select Scanners & Cameras. Right click on your printer/scanner > Properties > Network Setting tab. Select the Specify your machine by address radio button and, if it's not already in there, enter the IP address of your printer. Click OK. Scanner's done!

This will work as long as your router is running. You may need to repeat this process after a power outage or if you need to reboot your wireless router. Not too bad, though! I just wish everything was as easy as a Mac!!!

Network faxing from Mac

I do not believe you can fax out through your network on this model. Please visit www.brother.com and go through the links to find your owners manual and network manual. You should find this information there.
