52" Sharp LCD getting snow after 10 minutes

I have a 52" sharp LCD and the picture gets snowy after 10 or 15 minutes. If I change the input to cable of DVD they all have a showy picture so I know its not the cables. I turn of the TV for around 5 minutes and its back to normal. Any ideas?

Pic 1 is normal the the rest of the pics get worse after 10 minutes.

If I tap the back a little the snow will flicker. I am thinking a cold solder joint but what part???

I took the back cover off and it has fixed the problem. I really think it is a cold solder joint in one of the boards so when heat is applied the solder joint comes loose loosing the connection. It has been 3 months now and no snow.

Snowey on scrreen

Hi there,

I've been repairing TV's for over 15 years and I would say either a bad Tcon's or main board issue. Theirs no need to replace capacitors these days, you can get the main board from $40-60.
Have you tried using different devices on the unit? If your getting a snowy picture on a satellite receiver, check with your provider for troubleshooting guide their unit. Or let me know the provider and I can lead in you right direction.

If you need further help, I’m available over the phone at

I pressed the sown arrow on the remote and it switched to cable one and now i cant get the picture back. How do i get it back?

If I understand what you're saying correctly, I believe that you change the input on your television.
There's a simple, yet strange way to get your picture back.
Press the input button until you get your picture again. It's strange but it works.

Sharp 37" LCD/TV will not remain programmed with DirectV. DirectV technicians have come out to re-program the Sharp TV. They simply say over and over again that it is a Sharp problem. They keep telling me...

First of all any make or model tv will work with any directv receiver as long as it is connected properly. In my expierence Sharp TVs are compatible with all directv recievers. Is the directv remote not functionly properly with your sharp tv or do you have a black or snowy display. Your tv has to be on correct input in which the technician should of educated you on this instead of suggesting the purchase of a sony branded tv. Black or snowy display indicates the wrong input. Using the tv remote find a button labeled source or av or input and try pressing that button until you see a picture. otherwise call directv tech support at 800-347-3288 and demand that this issue is resolved immediately.
