Well, if it wasn't doing that before then you more than likely know its in your wiring. Cools down then heats back up sounds like the auto change over is on, and the heat setting is higher than the cool setting?
Your Thermostat should wire as Red to Rc/Rh (if Rc/Rh are not connected you need to put a jumper between them; White to W; Green to G; and Yellow to Y on your thermostat. These will be the only wire connections that you need to connect from the unit to the thermostat. However, if your thermostat is not battery operated and is programmable then you will have to run on wire form the transformer in the units C to the Bl on your thermostat.
Sounds like it could be a effiency function to warn you that the heat elements are on. Check your thermostat manual and see if you can turn this feature off. If this is not a feature then the thermostat may be wired wrong or something in the circuit may be trying to short out.
sounds like the High Limit has opened due to over heating. if your filters are dirty it may cause the unit to over heat and the High Limit saftey will turn off the gas and just run the fan till it cools and the safety should close. however the safety could have failed and stuck open , in that case the burner wont come on and the fan wont shut off. look for a flash code on the control board and thier should be a sticker somewhere that tells you what the # of blinks means.
Initially, I am inclined to suspect 3 possibilities:
sticking relay contacts (if used) (a possibility, least likely);
dusty thermal sensor/switch for the fan (likely);
time delay. design feature, will power down the fan only after a certain period that the heater has turned off. This is to dissipate residual heat not only on the heater but on the immediate surroundings of the heater element (most likely).
Make sure G from indoor unit goes to G on thermostat for fan continous fan, if that doesn't work and you have 24 volts to R and C then the t'stat is bad.
For 2nd stage heat or aux.heat, on the indoor unit you need to make sure the wire W2 from the indoor unit goes to W2 on t'stat.
You don't need any wires from W1on the indoor unit to W1 at the t'stat because with a York heat pump Y1 is the contactor which turns the compressor on and you will get 1st stage heat, and for cooling the t'stat will also bring on O which is the (reversing valve) or cooling changeover relay for the cooling mode.
C = common usually black wire
R = hot usually red wire
Y or Y1 = contactor
W1 = 1st stage heat not needed for heat pump
W2 = Aux. heat indoor heat
G = fan
O = Cooling changeover relay
B = Heating changeover relay
L = System monitor
E = Emergency heat relay
You most likely have a heat pump, the aux heat (usually electric) comes on anytime the room temperature is 4 degrees below the thermostat setting. Does the buzz go off when the aux heat lite goes out? If the aux heat does not shut off then the primary heater (heat pump) is not putting out enough heat to satisfy the thermostat. I need a little more info. Do you have a heat pump? Is it working?
