Question about Hitachi Televison & Video

1 Answer

Have a hitachi ultravision digital tv. model

Have a hitachi ultravision digital tv. model #53UDX10BA. Wouldn't come on after turning off one night when it was working fine. Clicked several times when power button pushed. Called repairman out. He took back off, checked everything, put it back together and it worked fine. He said he had never seen anything like it and according to his testing, could find no reason for issue. Next day wouldn't come on again and he won't come back!!

There is one very common problem in this set that may be your problem; it uses two mechanical relays and they usually are mounted on the power supply board---if I remember this model there will be a circuit board mounted (as you look from the back of the set) on the right wall--the power cord goes to it. Lots of times one of the relays will stick either open or closed (closed would give you a problem where the power light would remain on even if you turned the set off). I am going to post a photo here of what these parts look like--not exactly yours--but you will know what to look for. What happens sometimes is if someone opens the set and taps on the two relays the set will work again until the relay acts up again--if you find this is your trouble---the relays are easy to replace and about 4 dollars each from Hitachi--any good tech should have been familiar with this problem as it is very common. YOU should be able to see it now.

Most likely either one of them is totally bad now or you have a bad solder connection on that board; if you are able to remove the board look at the bottom where they are soldered in--each relay has 4 solder connections--look to see if any are bad or cracked (the connections0>

The fact that someone came out and opened the set and it started to work again suggests a physical problem of some kind--either a bad solder connection or something loose.

Yes, if it came back on a very good chance; problem for me has always been to try to tell which one was bad--at the cost of the parts cheaper just to replace both---

This could be a do it yourself job......It you get a tech make sure he gets the part number and comes with two---only way to be sure if they are the problem is to replace them and see what happens but I have seen about 12 of these with this being the problem.

only 4 pins on each relay--fool proof---two pins side by side and other two diagonal--no way to put part in wrong---GOOGLE THE HITACHI PART NUMBER AND SEE IF SOMEONE HAS THEM ONLINE--quicker to order them that way---any good soldering iron should do the job.

If I had the board out at that time I would also take a very good look for any other solder connections that might be bad on the board.

BEGIN by taking the power board back out and looking carefully at where you soldered and also at the other connections on the board.

If not there, suspect bad connection on main board below.

The deflection board with the part with the large red wires coming out
of the top is where you want to look next--That is the high voltage transformer---it is a large board!

You are looking for something obvious--solder connection ringed
(hairline cracks in the solder around some part or connection) --it may
even be slightly burnt---you have to look closely.

Likely the lamp in the set has failed here which does make sense if the picture was dim before---a lot of lamps just before failing all the way dim down.

Sounds like the DLP lamp failed. You can decipher the Hitachi flashing red light. That should help to be sure.
The DLP lamp replacement is fairly straightforward and can be done with minimal tools

Good Day;
Try this:

Symptom: All Front LED indicators are flashing in sequence: Power-->Temp-->Lamp-->Power......continuously
Cause: Replace Lamp . This symptom may happen all the time or it may be intermittent. It is normal if it occurrs from time to time, See OG under TV Front Indicators explanation notes.
