You didn't really give me enough information to work with but I'll give it a shot. It is possible to install pretty much any internal hard drive into you Dell E510. But, you have to figure out weather your Dell needs a SATA or IDE input for the hard drive. Look at the hard drive in your computer, if the cable connecting the hard drive to the mother board looks like this http://www.gshop.com.au/images/ide_133_cable.jpg then it is IDE. If it looks like this http://sierra-cables.com/SATA/images/SATA-Signal-Cable-1.jpg then it is SATA. You mainly only have to worry about if it is SATA or not because some mother boards do not support SATA. All mother boards support an IDE input however.

You should be able to install that drive. The biggest variable is if it is a SATA or PATA drive. This model was built for SATA drives, but I think you may be able to get a PATA drive to work with the right adapters.

For the step by stem directions see the link below. It will take you right to the Dell support page. Refer to the "Adding a Second Hard Drive" section.

It's possible that the only problem is that the replacement disk-drive needs to be "initialized" for first-time usage. Or, it's possible that your Dell won't support your new _larger_ disk-drive.

Did they send you a disk-drive with _greater_ capacity than your old 60GB drive?
It's possible that they "upgraded" you, because they had no (small) 60GB disk-drives in inventory.

Take your Dell "System Restore" set of CD/DVD disks, and reinstall Windows.
The Windows Installer will "initialize" your disk-drive.

Hi There. I am looking for an Internal Hard Drive to suit a Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop. Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160Gb ST9160821AS. Where can I get one or is there another Hard Drive that would be OK to use...

I suggest you check the specification of your Dell laptop to see the maximum size hard drive it can support. The maximum size hard disk you can install in the laptop depends upon the BIOS.
Any major brand of 2 1/2" hard drive will work with the Dell.

Problem installing external hard drive

Run device manager and keep it running during the installation of drivers. It will take a bunch of drivers, but it will work and it will stop once it has all the drivers installed.
