While not a hardware expert, with the help of web forums like these (THANK YOU SO MUCH), I can usually fix most problems. I am however, sound mixer challenged.
My nephew bought and installed this midi interface and got Cubase LE 126.96.36.199. Installed that according to directions, then his PC freezes, and the monitor shuts off and blinks. A reboot causes the same problem now.
Here are the PC specs that I know:
E-Machine, AMD Athlon XP processor
512 MB RAM
Windows XP Home
40 GB HD
16MB AGP TNT video card
Onboard sound card
I've followed the Tascam directions, and have uninstalled and re-installed twice. This is very frustrating, but I'm determined to come up with an answer. Could be OEM OS, so I'm going to reload that this weekend.
Any help would be so appreciated, this poor guy wants to get his song ideas laid down, and is very anxious to do so.
I have windows xp and also have tried installing my US 144, everytime I do I run into a problem when i play music with Media 11. The music plays for a moment them it just goes to making a high pitched noise. I have a sound blaster se card. I also run into problems trying to get cubase le and giga studio 3.0 to work. I keep running into problems and need some help. Some thing isn't right with the setup.
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

You are correct, there is no "voice generator" within the Tascam US-144. It can simply transmit the very primitive note-on note-off type data to a Sound Module or keyboard (like a Roldan SoundCanvas), and then that would generate the actual waveforms.
A SoundCanvas would suit your needs well, as you could run the midi out to this voice generator, and then run the stereo output of that back through the Tascam and into the computer for recording.

Go to device manager and verify that the ports are powered. Windows has as a default that if no USB is detected after a prescribed time, that they be powered down. (Without notification, I might add!) I would then change the parameters to where they are manually turned off and on to help the situation...accordianman
i have a similar setup (Cubase LE & Tascam 144) and each time i start up Cubase i have to make sure there is no digital input going to the tascam. once cubase is started up but no project loaded i plug in my spdif from my DAT machine and then open my project and all is fine. does that answer part of your question?
i have a different problem though, i'm trying to record my DAT tapes which are recorded at 32khz and cubase doesn't recognize that sample rate properly. it'll record no problem, and play them back fine, but exporting always creates mismatched sample rates in the exported file. sucks big time and i have got no idea on how to fix it either.
Hi, First try turning off the onboard audio device using the BIOS interface. Try pressing f4, f2 or delete key rapidly at the flash screen beginning when you first turn on the computer. Look around in the bios (usually in "integrated periperals" area) and disable any onboard audio options that you see. -In windows XP you can go to Control panel - Sound Devices and change the "map through" feature, select your default device, and run a hardware test simulation with a microphone for each device. Nice setup btw.
Hi Try Winxp Pro, if it doesn't work then do upgrades one by one to avoid spending too much, increase the memory, the harddisk and the video card... It needs a lot of space for recording, a lot of memory for processing before saving, and the video card to improve performance of the computer. Goodluck !!!
