1 Answer

My Dell Dimension locks up when starting with the 1 & 2 lights on and in the booting up page before windows .I am told the motherboard is stuffed .Is this the case and if so are replacement motherboards available for this ? The computer is a few months out of its 3 year warrenty so I would like to fix it although I am told its better just to replace it .

Hi:
If your Dell hangs up with the 1 and 2 lights on, that indicates an PCI expansion card problem. I don't know what cards your computer has , but try removing all cards except the video card and see if the computer will boot.
Here is a link to the owners manual, and explaination of all lites. Your computer has an odd case and motherboard, and would be expensive to find a replacement.

What is system password

Hi
I presume that you are referring to the computer system password that is required before you even get to the Windows start up screen.
In this case it is easier for you to download the manual by going here:
Product Support Dell US
and clicking on the "PDF" link beside the Service Manual. You might find it handy to save the manual to your computer for future reference.
There are two sets of jumpers on the motherboard relating to your problem, they are the Password jumper "PSWD" and the RTC reset jumper "RTCRST". They can both be located on the diagram of the motherboard on page 75. The RTCRST is near the battery, and the PSWD is near the Speaker and CPU fan connector.
The PSWD jumper should be set on pins 2 & 3 to disable password features. (See page 90)
The RTCRST jumper should be transferred from pins 2 & 3,and put on pins 1 & 2. After about 5-10 secs this should be replaced on pins 2 & 3. (see page 85)
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

I have Dell 4700 Dimension and can start up it, receiving message : Floppy diskette seek failure. But computer doesn't have floppy. Somebody told me it is up to motherboard.

Hello
You need to tap the del key while booting up or select f12 key to go into bios and disable floppy disk.

This way the pc will stop locking for a floppy disk.

How Can I boot my Dell Dimension 4700 to a windows XP SP1 Bootable installation disk, I've tried changing the boot sequence and everything:( It just won't work, I don't know where to begin with this...

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup

Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS the scroll down to advanced bios features press enter change your first boot device to cd,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

(note after you have loaded the operating system you must go back and change the first boot device to your hard drive)

The BIOS is AMI. Under ADVANCED SETUP:
The options listed for 1st,2nd ,3rd Boot device include:

IDE-0 means Pri master ?
IDE-1 means Pri slave ?
IDE-2 means Sec master ?
IDE-3 means Sec slave ?

DELL DIMENSION 2350 L'ADMINISTRACTOR IS LOCK

You can use Hiren's Boot CD to reset the administrator password. Download it and burn it on a CD. Boot from CD when computer starts up and go to Password Tools, and use one of the Windows utilities from there (you can choose from more: Password Renew 1.1, NTPWD, WinKeyFinder 1.73, Offline NT Password Changer 2010-06-27).

Dell dimension wont boot after power outage and stops half way through the boot page

Hello,

The problem is with the corrupted boot files .In my opinion you have one solution
Steps for solution

1. Download an operating system called ' Linux mint ' which can be installed in the pen drive having minimum 4 gb capacity . Using this operating system you can access the computer .

2. Copy the file and folders to an external storage device (external hard disk, pen drive etc..)

3. Reinstall the operating system ( XP,Vista ,Window 7,Ubuntu etc )

Hope you be successful

Dell Dimension 5150 Boot Problems!

You can probably try two things here.

1) Go to the BIOS and reset the defaults.
2) Clear NVRAM from your Dell computer. Here is how you do it.

Bleep on start up with black screen

1-3-2 is indeed a Memory error.

The Diag LEDs on the front panel should be 34 too

Try each RAM module individually, and insure that when you seat the ram, you do the following:

  1. Unplug power then press and hold power cord for 10 seconds to bleed stored power in MB.
  2. Remove ram using levers on slots,
  3. When installing ram, ensure the levers are back, press firmly with both thumbs to seat RAM until levers snap up and lock, do not pull the levers into locked position
  4. restart system.
If problem goes away with one RAM module, replace that RAM, if problem exists will all RAM in all slots, then replace Motherboard
