Try a reset before going to assistance:
There are two ways to reset the DM10:
To fully restore the module to original factory settings, hold the EXIT and STORE buttons while powering on the module.
To reset only the kits, sequences, or trigger settings:
  1. Press UTILITY to enter the main Utility Menu.
  2. Press SYS (F4) to access the Accompaniment Settings.
  3. Press INIT (F2) to access the reinitialization page.
  4. Use CURSOR UP/DOWN to move through the following menu items:
    • All Kits: All of the module's kits and their settings will return to factory default
    • All Sequences: All of the module's sequences and their settings will return to factory default
    • All Trigger Settings: All of the module's trigger settings will return to factory default
  5. Highlight the option you would like to reset, then press EXEC (F4).
  6. A window will appear asking you to confirm your choice. To confirm and reinitialize the selected settings, press YES (F1). To Cancel, press CANCEL (F2 or F2).

Wanted the instructions to assemble a set of ElectricDrums,/DM5,ALESIS

Which is it... a DM5 set or an SR16? This Fixya thing is disgusting trying to offer up brands and models.
IF you might have an SR16 that has a problem, the USUAL problem is using the WRONG power supply with it. You CANNOT use universal power supply... you must use the official adapter or it will not work.

I have a DM5 18 bit drum module. It is a while since it was last used and I can't find the mains adapter. I bought a new one and have it set at 9V. The unit switches on but it is very dim and I...

You CANNOT use one of those universal adapters, period. The DM5 Alesis takes an AC output adapter. You need 9 VAC at 830ma or more. AC output adapters are hard to find and you are not the first to try a universal and find that they don't work! Here is one of MANY sources on Ebay:

I have purchased a replacement power cable for my dm5 pro and it doesn't seem to work. it is a uk ac 9v 1000Ma adapter. what is the problem? how do i solve it? thanks, lee

Make SURE the adapter is NOT a DC output adapter. You need 9VAC output at about 1000ma. (1 amp) Many people try to use "universal" dc adapters and they will NOT work with the DM5.

Where does hihat control cord go

The hi-hat trigger goes into trigger #1. Using a footswitch will change the hi-hat trigger sound to a closed hi-hat. On page 8 of the user manual is the list of triggers and their assignments. Note that some new triggers from newer drumsets use TRS cables because they have two sensors within the drum head... Often the new ones have a rim shot snare trigger as well as a trigger for the mesh head. These newer different brand triggers would require special cables to be made to attempt to use them with the DM5. The DM5 is older technology now but is still useful.

My Dm5 drumkit module keeps intermittently ''freezing''. After powering down and switching back on it's ok again for a while, then after a varying amount of time does the same thing again, i am using it...

Intermittents are hard to find the cause of... but let's give it a shot...

Things to try or verify:

1, Verify power connector is fully seated and supply is correct one and is producing the desired voltage..

2. Verify that the amp this connects to is powered by the same wall receptacle. (this is a ground loop noise issue) Also don't let mic's or other electrical equipment touch the drum pad mounting system.

3. Verify you are not inadvertently generating static discharges. If you find yourself drawing sparks when you touch things this is an indication of static. if this is a problem, raise humidity to 40%.

4. If unit is subject to heat, try cooling with a fan to see if it helps the situation.

5. Verify the unit is NOT being vibrated.

6. IF THE UNIT is quite old, verify an internal backup battery is not depleted... they usually are about 3 volts when OK.

Alesis dm5 drum module keeps freezing after 2 mins of playing

Not a lot of ideas for you, but IF it will restart right away it is probably at the end of the particular song memory you have selected. In other words, you may be playing a song performance rather than just a plain rhythm. A song runs for the number of measures it is programmed for, often around the two minutes you mention.

If the whole unit freezes and all panel controls are dead, then I want you to actually freeze the unit in your freezer and quickly try it and measure the time it continues to run. This is to determine if there is a heat related problem. If it runs longer, then you can isolate the problem with circuit cooler.
