The tumble dryer timer dial won't count down now the dryer won't start

Sounds like the timer is shot Stuart. An easy job to replace yourself as it is accessible if you take the top off the dryer after unplugging. Just take plenty of photos or notes of where the push on connectors go.Plenty of videos on how to do it on you tube-search "timer on tumble dryer". New replacements are ridiculously priced at £40 to over £100 but fortunately many people give up on repairing dryers due to cost of spares or call-out fees.For this reason there are plenty of people who make a good living on ebay stripping spares off such discarded dryers and you should get one for £20. Hope this helps .

Hello Adrian;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.
Below is a picture of your timer switch. Also is a video of how to replace the timer switch. You must play and stop the video watching where each color or combination of colors go to each terminal. Orientate your timer in the same position the person in the video is holding the new timer.

It you purchased a new timer switch there will be a wiring schematic in the box. The schematic may be difficult to read.
A new timer will cost $65.00-$85.00 USD

Tumble Dryer won't start

assuming what you say you checked is correct and working then the next place to look is the start relay, located behind the front timer control panel, this sis more often than not a cubed shape box made of clear plastic with about 6 spade connectors on it, look for burn marks inside it, replace if looks damaged, do not attempt to bypass or short out to test, as you will blow the timer or and control circuit board and cause extensive damage
