How to clean pot racks

I have a Rangemaster dual fuel oven with black enamel coated stainless steel pot racks. Food burns on after each use & is difficult to remove when metal scourers are not recommended. Do you have a suggestion?

Black (rust colour) stains in the carafe

The fact that is is a stainless steel container makes it highly unlikely that it is rust. You should never drink out of a rust container. I would suggest a highly caustic but non-toxic cleaning agent. I'd start with vinegar or lemon juice. If you can get your hand in there, let it sit for a while and give it a scrub. Steel wool would definitely get the nasty stuff off but may also compromise any type of protective coating so inspect the metal to see if it has any type of coating over it (like an enamel glaze) should be bare stainless though.

Electrolux icon duel fuel range racks red light wont stop flashing even though I removed all racks, so oven will not start self clean cycle

Good Morning Andrea,

I see that you are having trouble with your Electrolux range, model# E30DF74GPS, and getting it to go into the self-clean cycle. I would suggest giving it a hard reset. First make sure the racks are in. Next, cut the power at the circuit breaker and leave it off for 2-3 minutes. After the time has elapsed cut the power back on. Start the self-clean cycle with the racks inside the oven. We're trying to get the oven to recognize the racks are inside. Once it states the racks are in, cancel out and take the racks out. Now, with the racks out start the self-clean cycle again. If you are still receiving the red light blinking, I suggest contacting the manufacturer or your local authorized technician. Hope this has been helpful.

-Best Regards-

Yard sale barbeque... how to clean the racks in it?

I would start by turning on the grill and heating it up for about 5 minutes. Use a brush to scrape off any stuck on food from the top and bottom of the racks. Take them off the grill while warm, be sure to use oven mits, and put them in a plastic container. If you want, you can use one of the commercial products like Easy Off on the top and bottom of the racks, but beware, these containers are toxic and cause skin burns and eye irritation, so use at your own risk. You can also use a non-toxic and biodegradable product, which I would recommend, it will just take longer. No matter which product you use, let it sit and work for a while, then brush/scrub off the racks. Make sure you rinse them well with water, especially if you use a product like Easy Off. If the racks are enamel coated and the enamel is coming off, or if the racks are rusted, get new ones.

How can we clean the baked on food from the oven racks and rack holders? Stainless steel cleaner does not touch it.

To clean the stainless steel without marking it you can first try non-caustic oven cleaner, if you use normal oven cleaner the acid in the cleaner will etch "eat" the surface of the stainless steel

I have the porcelain coated pans and the kids burnt chilled cheese and just can't seem to get it clean now

You can use spray-on oven cleaner, such as "Easy Off" or any similar store brand. Do not use oven cleaner on Aluminum pans, pans with non-stick coatings, or pots/pans with plastic or rubber handles. Wear rubber gloves when working with oven cleaner. It is a very powerful cleaner and can burn your skin.
  1. Put the pan in your empty kitchen sink.
  2. Spray it on generously with oven cleaner.
  3. Leave it overnight, 8 hours or so.
  4. In the morning thoroughly rinse and wipe all the areas you sprayed, including the sink.
You should have a clean pan and a clean sink. Refer to the oven cleaner's label for further instructions and safety hazards. Choose the type of oven cleaner that suits your needs. In my experience, "Fume Free" oven cleaners take longer and don't work as well. Seemingly, the more noxiously fumed cleaners, ie ones containing Lye (Sodium Hydroxide), work better and faster.
This works for porcelain coated pots/pans, stainless steel, steel, glass, etc. Do not use oven cleaner on aluminum pans, pans with non-stick coatings, or pots/pans with plastic or rubberized handles.

What is the best way to clean the racks from a self cleaning oven? The racks have to be removed during the self cleaning process but the manual does not say what to use to clean the racks and broiler pan.

Finally got in touch with my mother who suggested soaking the racks in the bathtub in very warm water with ammonium for as long as it took to loosen the dirt. Works like a charm. Remember to only do in a ventilated area and use gloves.
