Power handling CAPACITY is not to be confused with power requirements. What they're getting at in the box "To protect your speakers" on Page 3 in the manual ...

"To protect your speakers
When choosing a power amplifier to use with your speakers,
make sure that its power output matches the speakers’ power
capacity (refer to the Specifications on page 6). Even if the
amplifier’s power output is lower than the speakers’ PGM
(program) power capacity, the speakers may be damaged
when clipping of a high input signal occurs."

...is that any amplifier driven beyond it's non-distorting power limit will damage any speaker system, not with its raw power but with the artifacts of distortion (clipping). So they recommend amps spec'd at those high ratings in an attempt to keep them from distorting due to overdrive.

In practice, if you're cranking an amp to the stops you're either overdriving it or you're performing a concert and wishing you could crank it to '11'.

Being nominally 4-ohms, a pair of these speakers would likely have to be run in series or else their effective impedance may drop dangerously low. Two amps may be better for you, one amp per subwoofer.

If you need the manual, register with retrevo.com and download it free using "Yamaha SW218v" as the search.

HOW CAN I CONECT THE BOSE TO MY YAMAHA AMP THE ONLY WAY TO CONECT THE BOSE IS TO BANANA INPUTS ON MY AMP AND THEY ARE FRONT SPEAKERS BUT THE AMP HAS A SUB OUTPUT

To enable the full potential of a SUB for Yamaha DSP A5 ,

you need to have

a separate amplifier for your Bose Acoustimass System.

The SUB out should be connected to an active subwoofer.

My Yamaha SW118 keeps cutting out (volume reduces to v low level) even when driven by 500W amp. Doesn't seem to be the amp but not sure if the speaker has it's own internal protection. Can anyone advise?

Poly Switch
All full-range loudspeakers are fitted with a self-resetting
poly switch that protects the high-frequency driver from
damage caused by excessive power.
If a loudspeaker cabinet loses high-frequency output, immediately
remove power from the unit and wait for two to three
minutes. They should allow the poly switch to reset. Reapply
power and check the performance of the high-frequency
driver before continuing with the power reduced to a
level that does not cause the poly switch to interrupt the signal.
On the SW115V/SW118V/SW218V sub woofer, the Poly
Switch protects the woofer and a similar routine should be
followed if its output is lost.

L7 wiring options

yes it should work fine i would bridge them up to 4 ohms each speaker then bridge them back bye conectin them on the amp by puting the red with the red and puting the black with the black if the amp only has 1 chanel then put both speakers red on the same positive on the amp and same with the negative now to bring the ohms up to 4 ohms conect the solid red to the black with dot with a short wire ok then the ones that are not run together will go to the amp giving offf 4 ohms and with the 2 speakers bridged together thay will reduce to 2 ohms witch means that eatch speaker will get about 600 wats of rms from the amp

Knocking sound out of right side of yamaha sub

The speaker on the non-playing side is blown. Disconnect it or the amp will get fried as well. The coil has loosened from its form and is rattling against the speaker frame. If the insullation on the coil wires gets worn enough,it will short against the frame and possibly smoke that amp channel.
