Has he tried both the aspect on the tv remote and for the cable/satelite box both? These both have their own aspect settings.

Picture cut off for my flat screen pansonic tv, zoom adjustment grayed out and i cannot adjust?

Without that model number (should be on receipt or owner manual for set) do not expect anything here other than a general answer.

If the zoom is grayed out it may be normal depending on what is connected and how. If you are using a box of some kind hooked via rear inputs the box may be the reason---it may control or cause this to be grayed out---a simple answer to a question: Do you have the same problem with a DVD etc hooked up to a rear input?

My tv zooms in and changes the format.

This is normal - you are zooming in on the picture. Most people use the zoom feature to "stretch" a widescreen movie so it will fit the screen.

I just figured it out!! I have a comcast hd box and the remote has a small button on the bottom that says HD Zoom. Press that button and the display zooms several levels one of which is Normal. At least that solved my problem. Hope this works for you. Se easy it is stupid!!
