Question about Kicker KX200.4 Car Audio Amplifier

1 Answer

Hello. My Kicker kx200.4 is acting funny. The red display light on front/top of the amp is turning on for a second and then turning off, repeatedly. The light on the side (power) is also turning on, red for a second then green for a second, then off, also repeatedly. I'm trying to push two twelves(wired regularly, not bridged) with it and I've got it wired exacly the way they said to wire it in the 2 channel mono mode in the owner's manual. Any help would be dearly appreciated.

The amp is a 200 Watt by 4 im guessing and its doing that because its going into protection mode unhook the subs if it stops then 1 you have a bad sub or 2 the subs are too much for the amp if an amp is rated 200w per chanel its 200 max about 75 rms or 75 normal constant power

I have a kicker 500.2 red protection light is on and red light on top of amp flashes every couple seconds. Have checked all connections and other amp in truck works good. I bought two of these amps and...

Disconnect all the wires except the three main power wires, ground, 12v battery and remote. Now, turn on your radio, if the protect light is still on then there's an internal short in the amp. If the light turns green, then there's a short in either the auxiliary cables or the speaker outs. If it turns green, then troubleshoot the other wires that plug into the amp by connecting them one at a time until the protect light comes on, which will tell you that there's a problem with that speaker/aux wire.

Standard wiring colors are as follows:

4-Way

5-Way

6-Way

7-Way

Green

Yellow

Brown

White

Red

Blue

Purple

Right Turn & Brake

Left Turn & Brake

Tail Lights

Ground

Backup Lights

Electric Brakes

Auxiliary Power
Green- Right Turn and Brake
Yellow- Left Turn and Brake
Brown- Tail Lights
White- Ground
Red- Reverse (Back Up) Lights
Blue- Electric Brakes
Purple- Auxiliary Power

It sounds like your green and yello wires are shorted together somewhere along the length of the harness. I would check the wires on the trailer first. Easier yet, if you have another trailer to connec or access to another to use for testing, connect to it and see if the problem repeats; if it does the trouble is in the vehicle's wiring.

Kicker impulse 254 amp red light on top?

1st check all of your wiring, make sure the remote wire is hooked up, check to see it the RCA's are hooked up. I know this sounds stupid, but i've done it a thousand times, check to see if you hooked up the speakers. If you checked all of those and still nothing, double check your ground. Make sure where you have it grounded, you have all the paint sanded away and its a good grounding point. The red light on the top of the amp, its not a protection light is it??

Amp Power LED Display blinks red and no sound

With your multimeter set to DC volts, the black meter lead on the ground terminal of the amp and the head unit on (so the amp will have remote voltage applied), touch the red lead alternately to the B+ and remote terminals of the amp. Does the voltage on either the B+ or remote pulse below ~11 volts when the LED flashes?
