No dail tone for fax

Hello,

HP just started a recall on these units due to a potential overheating and fire hazard. They have started a buy back program. Additional details can be found here:

Just thought you may need to know about this.

I am using a printer of brother mfc and i can not understand how to fax from it

The default setting on Brother MFC printer is Fax. Meaning you will usually see the Fax Button lit with a green light. (If the fax button is not lit, just press that button to get it lit.). Put the sheet of paper you want faxed with the side you want sent face down. Now press the OK button. The screen will ask you to enter the Fax number. Key in the Fax number. Press start. The printer will start scanning that page. Once the first page is scanned it will give you 2 options. You can press 1, if you have more pages to send to the same Fax number. or you can press 2. This will tell the printer(Fax) it is just a 1 page document and the machine starts dialing. Wait for the fax completed message. Please make sure that the machine is connected to a working phone line before you start.

When I dial a fax number I get a busy signal even though I know that the number is not busy because I have dialed it on my outside line and it works. This has happened repeatedly. I have unplugged...

Since you mentioned that you have an outside line, do you have to use a code to dial out normally? Try plugging in a phone to the line for your fax machine, and attempt to dial the number for the other fax machine using the phone. You should reach the fax and hear a high pitched sequence of tones. This is the other fax machine trying to establish a connection. If you still get a busy signal, try calling the owner and letting them know that their fax machine is not accepting incoming calls.

I cannot get the fax to send. I have no problem

You don't specify what do you do when you try to send the fax, so we cannot say what's wrong.

The simplest method would be to place the document(s) in the feeder, pick up the handset, dial the desired number, wait for the fax on the other side to pick up and start beeping, press START button and replace the handset.
If there is a live person on the other side who needs to start the receiving manually, or transfer you to the fax, this is the only way to go.
If this works, and the receiving fax is set to pick up automatically, then you can program the quick dial buttons for faxing without using the handset as per your manual.

How to set hp1040 fax to work with aout answering

Hi,

If you are using the same phone line as your fax, you can start by connecting the answering machine on Line2 or 2-Ext at the back of the fax. Set the fax to answer on two rings higher than the Answering Machine. (for example: if answering maching is 4 rings, fax is 6 rings)

And then, turn on the auto answer.

Not able to send fax to an eFax number

I've had the same problem before. I don't know if it will solve your problem directly but I can offer a work around or two.

1. I have an efax number but with a company called callwave.com , I fax stuff to other customers using callwave and my MFC 7820n completes each fax successfully. So if you can get yourself a callwave efax number you can fax to yourself and forward fax as an email to your intended party.

2. Or, you can use your mfc 7820n to scan your fax docs as a pdf directly to your computer and then emailing them to your intended party.

Unfortunately it might be a brother issue because at the office when I use the hp fax machine instead of the brother machine, the hp faxes to efax numbers without a problem.

CANCELLING INCOMING FAXES

Unplug the phone line and unplug the fax machine. Then clear the memory if it starts printing out again.
