Hi, you say you hear the motor running? Do you mean the compressor motor? You have 3 motors, the compressor, condenser fan motor which both are located in the back and behind a panel with a small condenser coil. And, the evaporator fan motor in the freezer. They all must be running for the unit to operate right. You can check the 2 in the back by removing the panel and checking them both. Clean the front of the coil while you are back there, this will keep the internal pressures down to a cooler temperature. If the fan in the freezer doesn't run at all, this will be your problem. It must be changed. Make sure you have no switch around the perimeter of the freezer door that stops the fan when the door is opened first. Some models have them and most do not.If its not running, unplug the box and do your best to remove it. You can buy one at a appliance parts store, with the model, serial, and name of unit. Check all I have said first and keep me posted. Make sure you turn the control stat down so all will run.

Why is the fridge and freezer not cold enough

If the fan isn't running neither section will be cold enough. There may be something jammed against the fan blade or the motor could be defective.

My Maytag MFF2558VEM Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator doesn't keep cool

What you should be looking for is a blocked air flow. The fan in the freezer will push air up to the fridge and cool it off. Look for a dead fan motor in the freezer or a blocked air vent Good luck

Amana BR22VL refrigerator section stopped cooling.

is there any frost on your food packages or on the ceiling where the light is?if so the door was left open and the air vents are froze up or you have a bad damper or evaporator fan motor, open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing?if so the fan motor is good, check for ice on the ceiling and packages,if that checks good look at the back inside wall of the freezer,if that's covered with like snow or frost you have a defrost problem or also you have a damper in your model,it's closed and won't open to let the cold air in from the freezer.

go here, this is the part, all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer up into the fridge section,in your model the damper door opens to let the cold air in,when it gets cold enough the damper closes and that's it,so if the door wasn't left open and the fan is blowing in the freezer you have a bad damper.

Freezer works but refirgerator is not cold

when you open the freezer door do you hear the fan blowing?if not you have a bad evap fan motor,if the fan is blowing put your hand on the back inside wall of the freezer,if you feel like snow on the back inside wall you have a defrost problem and have to find what part is bad with a meter, bad defrost thermostat, heater or board or timer, send model number next time, ice builds up on the coil and air can't blow into fridge from freezer, could have a bad damper, also if the freezer is on top you could have a blocked drain in the freezer, the air vents freeze up and the fan can't blow air from freezer into fridge because the air ducts are frooze up,all it does is the freezer gets cold, the evaporator fan blows cold air from freezer into fridge section,so either the fan motor is bad,the fan blade is damaged or something is blocking the air like a bad damper or air ducts are frozen up,send the model number and let me know what you find,do you hear the fan,any ice on back freezer wall or anything else you see and i'll try to help you out.

I have a magic chef refrigerator that is not cooling. The freezer is working but nothing is staying cold in the frig. Could this be the thermostat?? Don't want to replace frig for a number of reasons. ...

next time send the model number, where is the freezer is it on top or bottom or side by side, anyway all the fridge does is get cold in the freezer and the evaporator fan blows cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and then it returns to the freezer just goes around until it gets cold enough and then the t-stat tells it to shut down so if the freezer is cold you either have a bad fan motor, open the freezer you should hear the fan blowng around in there if not the evap fan motor is bad, also touch the back inside wall of the freezer if there's any frost or ice on the back inside wall you have a defrost problem, bad timer or board, bad defrost thermostat or a bad defrost heater, the ice doesn't melt off of evap coil because one of the parts have failed, the air ducts get blocked with ice and the cold air can't blow into the fridge section,or if you see ice on the ceiling, side and back walls the door was left open and the air ducts blocked with ice,or one more thing if the freezer is on top and you have water dripping into the fridge section the drain in the freezer is blocked and the defrost water can't go down the drain hose, the water is freezing the air ducts up,the drain has to be cleared and all the ice has to be melted out,and yes there is one more thing it could be, some fridges have a damper in them, all it is is a door that opens and closes to let the cold air from the freezer blow into the fridge section so this is why you have to send the model number.but your problem is the cold air in the freezer isn't getting blown into the fridge section because the fan isn't working or the air ducts are blocked with ice.

Zanussi integrated fridge freezer, top half fridge not working

It appears you need to get the cold distributed from the freezer section to the frig section. This can only be accomplished by a fan that forces the cold air throught openings between both sections. Since the freezer in at the bottom, cold air cannot go upward, thereforethe fan. Chech that the interior fan (in the freezer section) is running. Check that the air openings between the sections are not blocked. Finally, if all looks good, then maybe the compressor system is slowly failing and only making enough cold for the freezer, but not enough to be circulated. Goodluck, Macgivor

Refrigerator is not getting cold although the freezer appears to be working fine

can you hear the evaporator fan motor running in the freezer? this fan motor pushes the cold air from the freezer to the food section to keep it cold. you may have to replace the evap. fan motor. also, check for any kind of ice build up around the evap fan motor.

Freezer is not staying cold. The freezer is on but its not staying cold enough to keep the food frozen. The Ice maker switch is turned on but ice is still melting. Turned the control to coldest but still...

Sounds like the evap. fan motor is not turning. What is the freezer temp. have you measured it ? What about the fresh food section, (fridge compartment).

Anyway, try this. Hold the door switch in the closed position with the freezer door ajar and see/listen for the fan coming on. If you can't be sure, the best way to do this is to first turn the thermostat all the way to the "off" postion, and with the freezer door ajar and holding the door sw. closed (pushed in). turn the thermostat back on. (you may need to turn off then back on first if your arms aren't long enough) You should hear the fan motor start.

NOTE; you may hear the compressor overload "click" off if trying to start it right after shutting down, this is normal (under short cycles or manual restarts). You may also hear the condensor fan motor run (under the fridge by compressor) this too is normal. try to indentify the freezer fan (evaporater fan motor) running or not.

good luck.

Warm in freezer and refrig

On some Amana refrigs , the defrost thermostat has to close before the fan will come on . The coils will get cold and since the bimetal clips onto the coils , it will get cold as they do . When cold enough , bimetal closes and the fan will come on . Are the coils getting cold ? If so , then the compressor is working . You could also have a bad fan motor instead of bimetal . Recheck to see if you hear the fan in freezer now .

Fridge not getting cold enough

listen for the compressor running in the back at the bottom. when you hear that running, open the freezer section. do you hear a fan blowing inside the freezer? if not, the evaporator fan motor is jammed with ice build-up or it's bad. hope this helps.
