Y need to know were the cable or conector named pwr/sw its gona be conected in the motherboard

Most of the time, those connections are on the bottom-right of the motherboard. Look carefully for markings or words.

My power went out and when it came back on the computer would not come on


eMachines uses low quality hardware components inside their computers. This is the way they can sell them at budget prices.

One main hardware component is the low quality power supply they use.
A generic power supply made by Bestec. (A generic power supply manufacturer)

(PSU. Power Supply Unit. The type of PSU used is a SMPS.
Switched-Mode Power Supply,

Low quality;
A) Electrolytic Capacitors (Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitor)
B) Rectifier Bridge
C) MOSFET/s
D) Wiring is too small in gauge
to name a few of the components.

However IMHO it is also best to check out the Power On switch.
There is a simple test to see whether the problem is a faulty Power On switch, or a faulty Power Supply.

The test involves bypassing the Power On switch. The Power On switch is not involved in this test.
A jumper wire is used on the Soft Power On wire, [ PS-ON ], and a Ground wire in the ATX main power cable connector.

If you bypass, and the Power Supply comes on you have a bad Power On switch.
If the Power Supply does Not come on you have a bad Power Supply.

The Power Supply used is just a common ATX version.
ATX refers to the Form Factor of the power supply.
Regular size ATX form factor is approximately 6 inches Wide, 5-1/2 inches Long, and 3-1/2 inches Tall. (Height)

There are also differences in the pinout of the ATX main power cable.
Yours may have 20-pins, or 24-pins.
Power Supply's sold now take this into consideration.
Their ATX main power cable can be used as a 20-pin, or a 24-pin version.

Your motherboard may also require an additional power cable, commonly referred to as a P4 power cable, or P4 ATX 12V power cable, or just ATX 12V.

I have the same problem with Demension 5150. Replacing the P/S didn't solved the problem. When I connected the P/S the motherboard green LED light lighted up, however, no matter how many times I pressed...


For non-BIOS issues:

If you did not try to update BIOS before the problem started then try these troubleshooting steps.

1. Full power down. Unplug the power cord from the Power supply. Then hold down the pc power button (this discharges any residual power in the capacitors).

2. Open the case and reseat the graphics card, hard drive, and RAM.

3. Take out one of the RAM sticks if there is 2 or more. Swap the RAM sticks in different RAM slots. Try one stick at a time to see if you can get the PC to boot. If this works, then the remaining ram sticks are damaged.

4. Set the Cmos jumper to clear. Power up the pc. Power down the PC. Set the Cmos jumper back to normal position, power up the PC.

5. Unplug and replug all the power supply cables.

6. Check the powersupply function. Either by a powersupply voltage checker (20-25 dollars at local PC shop), get the supply tested at a PC shop (usually a free service), put the powersupply in a different pc, or try a different powersupply in the problem computer.

If the Powersupply checks out ok, then you will have to do a process of elimination to find out what part or parts are the culprit of the No-Boot.

Start by pulling all the ram sticks if you have not already. This is the easiest components to check and usually a culprit.

Take out one of the RAM sticks if there is 2 or more. Swap the RAM sticks in different RAM slots. Try one stick at a time to see if you can get the PC to boot. If this works, then the remaining ram sticks are damaged.

If it is not the RAM, you have to continue removing items such as sound cards, un-plugging hard drives and optical drives, other PCI cards. Do this one at a time until you find the culprit. If a POST screen, meaning you can see Anything from the PC brand name to Motherboard brand name appearing on the screen. The PC may not boot to windows, but it Does post at this point, and with that the problem is resolved. If windows does not load, then you have a new problem. Best dealt with asking a new question.

No power


An AT power supply must have current draw to turn on. Remove every component not needed for boot ( Floppy, Hard, CD DVD Fan. Leave on Motherboard and CPU and Fan. With header connections connected ( HDD led, PWR on, PWR Led and speaker ) push the on switch and make sure the back of supply doesn't have a switch. Does anything happen? Write me back if you want and we'll try to get some juice out of the supply.

I removed all the connections on my 3210 emachines motherboard now i realise that i dont know how to re-connect the power switch wires,there are 3 altogether, does anyone know where i can get a diagram? or...


You can connect the power connector to the corresponding sockets. It wont make any problem if it is changed one another. Only thing you have to connect in the correct position.

Pc no start.........


You might have a bad power supply. If you have a voltmeter, check the voltage of the standby power supply. This voltage is present even if the system is off, plugged in. It powers a small portion of the logic circuit. It should measure within a couple of tenths of exactly +5 volts. If it is low, or high, this will prevent turn-on. The purple wire of the 24 pin connector is what carries this to the motherboard. The color coding layout is found at http://pinouts.ru/Power/atx_v2_pinout.shtml If by chance this voltage is OK, then check the full on voltages also. Repair of the defective supply is probably by replacement of one or more small electrolytic capacitors in the appropriate circuit, especially if you are technically savvy. Capacitors are available through several suppliers; Digi-Key supplyies Panasonic FC series which are suitable for switching power supplies. Or, you may just replace the whole unit.
