I did the same thing, trying to find a way to clean UNDER the glass plate... the blue lever moved so easily forward and won't come back. I've turned it off, I hope that helps!

Pull it toward you. You may have to pull kinda hard, but just pull it back. It's sole purpose is to lock the scanner head during shipping.

There's a little blue toggle switch where the copies/scans come out from. Pull the blue switch toward you, turn off the printer, wait a few seconds, and turn the printer back on.

I cannot unlock my scanner? Dell 1815dn

The scanner has a manual lock (a blue sliding switch on the base of the scan bed inside of the printing output slot.)
This prevents the scan head from damage when the printer is moved.

Look and reach inside the paper outlet and pull the latch (located on the left) towards you.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

How do I unlock the scanner?

The lock switch is engaged.
Open the ADF.
To the left of the flatbed glass, there is a slide switch (blue?).
Slide it to the UNLOCK position.

by the way, the lock/unlock switch is used when transporting the all-in-one so that the scanning arm is not mis-aligned.

When you lift the scanner lid look to the left bottom. you should see a green slider button. If you stick your hand in the output tray and get it rigth under the green slider you will find a lever. Move that thing backwards or forwards, that is your unlocker.

There is a little tab that locks the scanner bar.
Open the flatbed cover, and you'll see it in the left corner closest to you.
To unlock it, reach your hand (palm up) into the area the the paper comes out in.
Slide the tab to the unlock position (you'll be able to see it through the flatbed area.
If you need a complete manual for the MFP, you can go to the Dell website, in the support area, and download a copy of it.
