was that the only HDD in the computer. If so you need to reinstall the os (windows, linux, etc) before the PC will boot anything. if not, or if its not showing the logo or POST, then it may be a faulty HDD. If you have a warantee, get it replaced.

I recomend installing an OS, you may need to buy a new cd if you dont have one, or if it came with a recovery CD, then use that. If it doesent work then, the hard drive you bought is damaged.

Hi there, use any hard drive cloning tool. like Acronis or Norton Ghost. with hard drive cloning you'll get exact copy of your old hard drive to your new hard drive.
Note : Do not format your old drive until you thoroughly check your newly installed drive is working fine and windows 8 is genuine.

All the best.

Are you using the Fujitsu-supplied Windows XP Installation Media, or a "generic" Windows XP CD-ROM?

The "generic" version may be lacking the device-drivers for the SATA disk-drive,
and therefore cannot "find" the disk-drive.

I turned my laptop on today and it is looking for an hdd password any thoughts

Check for a loose connection of the "data" cable to the disk-drive.

Turn the computer off.
Disconnect the AC power.
Remove the battery.
Wait a few seconds.
Re-insert the battery.
Turn the computer on, and see if it still asks.

Recovery Data

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Pls of course, a NO. But it is a good sign, it means the PC recognizes that there is a hard drive connected through the USB as an external storage media. What is required is to look for, download, install and run a file recovery utility program. An example is GetDataBack. There would be others that are free and/or with more lenient demo.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

Hard drive replacement

SATA drives are the latest hard drives available nowadays. You could try going online and checking other sites that could still have an IDE hard available for sale.
