Holmes HQH319A Heater Troubleshooting

My Holmes HQH319A heater was working yesterday. Today I moved it to another room and now it does not work in the new location, or anywhere else. I made sure that it's on a flat, level, surface. I've left it unplugged for at least 10 minutes before plugging it back in. Nothing. I've pressed both the reset button on the plug as well as the red reset button on the back of the unit, and still nothing. Am I overlooking something?

SOURCE: heater will not operate!

did you take it apart to see if the switch is good or the thermostat was functioning?  without looking inside, other than saying it don't work, isn't going to solve anything.

Depending where you live, here in Vermont we take square footage and multiply by 30 for a rule-of-thumb calculation. This gives us a very conservitive Btu rating. New York City use 20 Btu per square foot and Washington D.C. use 15.

SOURCE: control panel blinking

Worked for me also. I had some coins down in the circuits too (4 year old). Working fine now, no more blinking.

SOURCE: heater is not coming on

That makes sense, you were pulling well over over 20 amps. It doesn't make sense but it appears the heater failed. I would assume the heater has an electronic control that got zapped by the surge generated by the vacuum cleaner when the breaker tripped. If it is not an expensive heater just get a replacement. Unless you are experienced in repairing these things it is much safer just to replace it.

SOURCE: Heater comes on but quickly over heats.

There is no Filter On this Model. Check to make sure there is Dirt in the Flow way of the two towers. if that is not it the back up fuse in the heater is going bad.

You would have to contact the makers of the heater to give you a clear answer on that , most heaters smell when first put on from new and you would have to burn this off first ,

My Holmes modelHCH 6001 won't start. The receptacle is hot so I think it has to do withthe product itself.

It may, but it could also be a faulty receptacle depending on how old it is or the amperage draw from the heater may be to high. Especially, if you have another electric appliance plugged into the same receptacle. That's where you need to start troubleshooting. If the wiring and the receptacle is fine, then there is more than likely an electrical short in the heater or the cord from the heater to the receptacle.
In the meantime, unplug the heater from the receptacle and let it cool while you do the troubleshooting. If you decide to remove the receptacle, be sure to turn the circuit breaker feeding that receptacle to OFF. Or you may have a shocking experience.

my heater did the same, very frustrating. i have solved this problem.  i took off the plastic cover to expose the electronic circuit board and noticed that there was a white residue on the board. My oil-filled Holmes heater HOH2520U will not heat now. it was working for a while the shut its self off and now the control panel is constantly blinking unless it is set at the room temp. HELP PLEASE

I had the same problem. this is what i did. unplug the heater. removed the plastic panel to expose the control panel where the blinking light is.  Removed all the dust and cobweb build up, then using rubbing alcohol, wiped the white residue that was on the green circuit board. I did this 10 days ago and the heater has been working fine since then. chaz

the thermostat is doing what it is supposed to. it is reading the air around the heater and turns on - off the element. it's when it doesn't turn on the element is when to worry.
