Underneath the glass is the burner coil element. See if you can take one of the other elements that is close in size and plug it in to the one that is not working, and turn it on for a few seconds, as soon as you see or feel (don't touch it) it get warm, the plug is working and the original element is bad. If you know what your doing and can figure out how to unplug, and plug them in, you can try this, it will tell you if just the element is bad.

Do not touch the coil with bare hand, even when cool, unplug the stove,
then plug it back in, try the switched burner to see if it works.

If you don't feel comfortable, then call a appliance tec.

Remember safety first, you don't want to get hurt just to save a few dollars.

Most likely, it is just the element, but the problem could run deeper.

check the burner socket, it is likely that contact is being lost where the burner connects to the hardwired portion of the system (the socket). It is not unusual for the socket to "burn up" when there is a poor connection to the burner resulting in the burner being replaced and the new burner not working or working intermittently.

SOURCE: Gemini Range Dual Burner

Unfortunately, you cannot repair one element of a dual burner. It all comes as one unit. When one portion of a dual or triple element goes bad, you must replace the whole element. I believe the part number is 1032746 and runs about $70. You will have to lift the glass top to access the burner elements. If you decide to pursue this on your own follow these steps: 1. Unplug range and/or turn off main breaker. 2. Open oven door to access screws under front edge of cooktop. Remove two screws and the top should tilt up. 3. The top will not stay up on it's own, so you will need some assistance holding it up. Some ranges have a couple of disconnect plugs that you can unplug, so you remove the entire top and lay it somewhere to work on. If this is the case with yours (as I suspect it is), lay some soft towels down on the kitchen table or counter top and lay the cooktop upside down. This will make it much easier to work on. 4. Remove affected element by disconnecting the wires first. You may want to write down how they came off, so you can be sure to reconnect them in the right order. 5. Remove mounting brackets holding element in place. Pay particular attention to the numbering scheme on the bottom of the element and where the brackets are mounted. The new element usually doesn't come with new brackets which means you have to take the brackets off the old element and put them on the new element. Make sure you install them in the same numbered holes as they were located before. 6. Reconnect wires and reinstall cooktop, making sure you reconnect the disconnect plugs if equipped. Now, be careful when working on the cooktop while it is upside down. Make sure you don't apply too much pressure on the glass or you could crack it. Also, use extreme care NOT to touch the element surface as the oils from you hands can cause hot spots and effectively ruin it. The bake light material in which the element is mounted is also very fragile. DO NOT put to much pressure on it or it may crack and break. Once you get the cooktop reinstalled and power reapplied, op test it to make sure BOTH elements are working. It is normal to see a little bit of sparking at first with new elements and/or an odor. Test the entire range of the element and make sure it regulates like it should. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: Broken Glass on Cooktop

Ouch. The glass top does have to be replaced but I just ran the partial model number on your range and if you're at the comp. I hope you are sitting down. Replacing it not bad. Purchasing tho is rediculous. Retail suggested price just for the top is 600.00. Rediculous pricing but GE is like that sometimes. Sorry but repairing the glass is not possible and getting it from a glass shop isn't either. Sorry for the not so good news. Rick

Front big burner is pitted 2 places not deep no element is exposed, can I use the other burners?

If this is a glass cook top, you are fine using any burner that you want. The pitting is caused by SUGAR that is splilled on the glass and heated.

Large burner not working

It is possible the burner itself is bad. Most tops have a couple screws under the glass panel the will allow you to open up the top and install a new burner element. these elements are very fragile so be careful installing a new burner element. The other possibility is a burned wire or a bad switch.

Rewire the speed heat burner

Setting up the glass top I aligned the wires to the terminals by size and length of each wire. With the wire situated in their proper holders on the stovetop base it was easy to see where thet should go, looking at the other burners made it easier to see where each wire fit in the pattern.

Broken glass top inset ''burner ring''

If you are referring to the bakelight material, this is an insulating compound and the burner still may work. I would not use this long term in this manner however. This material insulates as well as helping maintain an even heat transfer of the burner. Long term use, may cause damage to the cooktop. The burners are replaceable, but the prices vary depending on the size of the burner. The part numbers are as follows:

6" radiant heat burner - WB30T10129
8" radiant heat burner - WB30T10132
9" radiant dual heat burner - WB30T10133

You can view these parts at searspartsdirect.com under the "Cooktop" heading. You may find the parts cheaper at these other websites, by searching for them using the part numbers provided:

pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary at the other websites. Sometimes they may not carry the model number, but the part numbers are still listed.

If you have further questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

New whirlpool range (smooth top) burners cycle on and off. Example.. turn on, 23 sec, off 28 sec, on 12 sec, on 11 sec off 30 sec, on 14 sec, etc. Impossible to cook properly

ok
i have been called out alot on this,,,,
believe it or not thats 100% normal
you are not cooking with those burners, you are actually cooking from the heat of the glass.
your "burner" element will cycle as needed to keep the glass your pan is sitting on at the temp you set
let it heat up, the glass will get hot quickly, GAS FAST as they say....
dont worry about the cycling put your pan on top and begin to cook,, it will work

Ge true temp stove top burner wont stay on

dont know how old unit is or how familiar you arewiththe unit, but the burner will need to heat up and cycle off/on. no matter how high or low you set the setting it will heat to a specific temp and cycle off, if hte burner remained RED all the time the glass would crak( so dont go by appearnce of burner, the glass should dictate the temp
