Try pressing and releasing the shutter button. If that doesn't do anything, then turn the camera off and on and press and release the shutter button. If that still doesn't do anything, then turn the camera off, remove and reinsert the batteries (or a fresh set, if readily available), turn the camera on, and press and release the shutter button.

I ran across a Nikon N80 last week which hadn't been used for many moons. I tried the shutter and the mirror promptly locked up. It took about half a dozen tries, but the mirror eventually shook loose or whatever, and the camera now works perfectly.

If the above procedure doesn't do it, then you may have to take it in to a good camera shop for a CLA (clean-lubricate-adjust), the camera equivalent of an automobile tune-up.

Where can I find a free users manual for Nikon F75

The F75 is the same camera as what was sold in North America as the N75. You can download the manual from
http://butkus.org/chinon/nikon/nikon_n75/nikon_n75.htm

The webmaster requests a donation if you find the manual helpful.

My camera wont focus properly

In that case, the AF system has failed.

Unfortunately, this now means that you F65 has just become an unrepairable spares donor. Your camera was a short-lived budget model and Nikon never gave it the spares support of more expensive models.

IF you can find the spare parts needed, they'll exceed the cost of replacing your camera, and that's even before you include labour costs.

It's not all bad news though: models like the F65 and F75 are simply of no value to Nikon enthusiasts so are available very cheaply. I recently got a boxed, mint, "used for just one holiday" F75 with the kit 28-100 lens for free on my local Freegle group (a UK offshoot of FreeCycle, where many of my other Nikons and Canons have come from). Used camera dealers tend to sell F65/F75 bodies for around £50-£60, and on auction sites they tend to go for anywhere between £5 to £30 unless there are competing idiot bidders. Last summer I also got a Nikon n8008s (F801s) on FreeCycle, it's a bit battered but works perfectly, so it's definitely worth registering with all of the groups within easy reach of you and regularly scanning the offers.

Image through nikon f80 dark and cloudy

I'm unfamiliar with the F80 but on models like the f65 and f75 the viewfinder screen has an lcd overlay and when the battery is exhausted or removed the viewfinder goes dark and blurry.

Looking at a picture of the f80 it looks like it's just an update on my f75 so it strongly suggests that you just need to insert a fresh battery. The lcd does draw power from the battery even with the camera turned off.

I hope that you found my answer useful, once you've tried another battery to confirm what I've suggested I'd appreciate it if you return the favour by rating my answer.

Err message on Nikon 75 after taking a picture

Here's a link to the N75 / F75 user guide. The troubleshooting section / lens compatibility area might point to the problem. If the viewfinder is dark, the mirror is likely stuck in the UP position. This is usually due to a lens compatibilty issue, or the fact that the lens is not set to its smallest aperture (ie 22). The camera needs that to control the full range of aperture openings

My F75 won;t work at all

1.Most SLRs have the same problem. The paste which used to fix the reflection mirror with the metallic plate is usually rubber based, So there is a chance to the mirror to slide from its original position to down due to gravity. And particularly when you focus close ups the lens extends backward and the lens struck the mirror Positioning the mirror to its original position will solve your problem.
2.May be your camera batteries weak check it for its operating voltage.

D70 mirror lock up

I'm looking for the source of this same problem. I was able to get my d70 unstuck by:
1. Set to full manual mode.
2. In the menus set mirror lock up to yes and then press shutter release.
3. Turn camera off and then back on

Hope this helps you!
