Garmin Nuvi 1250 stuckin "loading maps" screen

So the unit was working fine, brand new, I've only used it a handful of times. I unplugged it from the power source yesterday evening when I was using it and forgot to hit the "stay powered on button." So at that point I restarted the Garmin Nuvi 1250 and it loaded up to the point where the screen says "Garmin. Loading maps" and is frozen there. I have tried turning on and off and even did that master reset trick (holding the bottom right corner while powering on). Still no luck! What is going on and how can I get my Garmin back?

Hello,

Try performing a soft reset of the nuvi 1310 by holding the power button for at least 10 seconds until the unit powers up.

A hard reset can also be done.
To perform a hard reset :
Note: A hard reset will erase all waypoints or Favorites and will restore your unit to the default factory settings. If you would like to back up your Favorites to your computer, you can find instructions to do so here.

• Start with the unit OFF and unplugged from power
• Press and hold the lower right corner of the screen
• Continue pressing and holding the lower right hand corner of the screen then power the unit ON
• Release the power button when the device powers ON
• You will see a new message: Do you really want to erase all user data?
Remove your finger from the touchscreen when this message displays
• Touch Yes

Also, be sure that the nuvi 1310 has the latest software update by installing and running the Garmin WebUpdater program.
Load or reload the latest software update as this will usually resolve most issues.

You may also want to contact Garmin Support for assistance.

Does your Garmin Nuvi 1250 Freeze at Loading Maps?
Does it lock up or stop working?

This tip will describe how to perform a hard reset of the device, and how to backup your 'Favorites' in case the hard reset erases them. The next step in fixing your Nuvi when it doesn't start properly is to update its system software using Garmin WebUpdater.

A hard reset (or Clear All User Data) has been known to resolve unit quirks and strange behavior. It's generally recommended to perform it after a firmware update but is not required by any means. However, if you're seeing quirks and strange behavior with your unit after the firmware update, it is a good idea to do a hard reset of the unit.

Backup and Restoration Procedure for Favorites:

The Hard Reset procedure has been known to delete your Favorites, so back them up beforehand.

  1. From the Nuvi drive, copy '/Garmin/GPX/current.gpx' to a backup location on your computer.
  2. After the hard reset, copy your backed up 'current.gpx' from your computer back to the '/Garmin/GPX/' folder on the Nuvi, but be sure to rename it 'temp.gpx'.
  3. On the next power cycle, the Favorites will be read from 'temp.gpx' into the non-user accessible memory area on the Nuvi where they are actually stored.
Perform the Hard Reset:

*Note that this will clear all user selected settings on the unit

  1. Power the unit off.
  2. Remove the battery and wait several minutes.
  3. Install the battery.
  4. Press and hold (and continue to hold) the bottom-right corner of the screen while powering the unit on.
  5. Continue to hold the screen until the "Do you want to erase all user data?" prompt appears.
  6. Press "yes" and the unit will reboot. This resets all your location settings and user preferences.

If possible after the hard reset, let the unit sit outdoors in the open for about 30 minutes or so to let the unit re-acquire the satellite almanac data.

You have now performed a hard reset of your Garmin Nuvi 1250 series GPS unit.

I hope that helps.

Update my garmin nuvi 1250 gps `now`

Hello,

If you are looking for map upgrades there are a couple options.
One is to purchase the update on DVD then load it to the unit.
Two Purchase a Lifetime Subscription to mapping which would allow you to update the GPS every 3 months.
You can also obtain a onetime update VIA download on Garmin.com. For best prices check www.gpscity.com

Hi My Garmin Nuvi 1200 is frozen on loading maps how do I fix this issue

The only solution is a reset. To do this you turn the unit on (this may take a few tries with it coming on, blanking off, and cycling like this a few times). Once it is on press the lower right hand corner of the screen.

It will ask if you want to reset and you say YES.

This will clear the memory completely (but not the security code, if you have one).

It will start (or you need to turn it on again) and it will have none of your previous settings and none of your previous addresses but it will be working again.

Can't see screen when plugged in to vehicle

I would venture a guess that the cable you are using in the vehicle is not a genuine Garmin cable. The units are very sensitive to voltage.

Anything under approximately 10 volts - the Garmin assumes it is plugged into a USB port (Active Cradle)... not a vehicle... and it dims for quicker charging.

Switch to a Garmin OEM cable.
