For BIOS password reset, need to change the jumper settings to "clear CMOS" mode which is located near the CMOS battery. eg: if the jumper is in pin 1 & 2 , then change it to 2 & 3 or visa versa. After changing the jumper settings, need to start the system and switch off will reset the CMOS to factory default with no password set. After this need to revert the jumper settings.

Reset bios password

Acer laptops are equipped with a BIOS utility.
The BIOS (which stands for "Basic Input Output System") acts as an interface between the hardware and software installed on the computer.
On some computers, a BIOS password may be required in order to boot the computer and make changes to the BIOS settings.
If you are unable to access the BIOS settings and do not know how to reset the BIOS password, you might be tempted to send the computer back to the manufacturer for repair.
Fortunately, that's not necessary as there is a simple way to do this on your own.

Go to "Start," then perform a search for "Command Prompt."
The Windows Start button is located in the lower-left corner of your computer screen.
Double-click on "Command Prompt" to open the application.
You will need to use MS-DOS commands to reset the BIOS password.

Type the following commands one by one in the order shown:
o 70 2E
o 71 FF
Make sure that you are typing the letter "o" and not a zero at the beginning of the second and third commands.
Reboot your computer by clicking "Start," "Shutdown," and then "Restart."
The BIOS password will now be reset to default.

you could download all of these or just one save them to a usb drive for later use if one fails to remove the password
At some stage you might need to press Ctrl+Enter rather than just Enter if on a Dell Latitude E5410
A CMOS BIOS password recovery tool
Editors note: This tool should only be used by experienced computer users.
Please see the enclosed read me if you would like to run it from Windows.
Failure to follow instructions (from Windows) will cause your anti-virus to flag this as a virus.

My acer 2420 laptop crashed due to virus. i have removed hard drive and all the files i require have been copied. to continue i need password to reset computer

If you have a virus that still persists, it means the virus has corrupted your bios chip. This requires that the laptop be taken apart and the chip reset or replaced. Or simply reload your old O/S and start afresh if you know that the bios is not corrupt.

There are 2 ways you can reset your bios2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery and plug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Your reset is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting2_bing.gif step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
