You must obtain/set up one.

1. hook up a computer to one of the numbered ports on the back(eTHERNET CABLE. Like a phone jack but longer.)
2. wait untill the computer says it is connected.
3. open your internet browser, and go to this address: http://192.168.1.1(the routers internal setup)
4. type in "admin" in both boxes.(if you havent set up a password yet)
5. go to "wireless", "Wireless Security"(bar below first one), either choose DISABLED(you will not be protected from strangers accessing your internet, slowing yours down) or one of the choices and type anything in(recommend 15+ characters, better yet random. WRITE THIS DOWN.)
6. Click save changes
7. Go on your wireless enabled computer, and if you used a key, enter it, otherwise it should connect

If you need to know how to secure it, its all right there. If you chose to make a key(step 5) you are all set, because that key is the password, and with out it, it cannot be accessed. Best of all, the data being sent out is scrambled without the key. happy surfing!

I cant figure out where the pin number

Are you trying to connect to the wireless network on a WINDOWS VISTA / 7 computer? Sometimes on the windows vista computer , it will ask you for the PIN number when you try to connect to the wireless network. On the same window at the bottom you will find the option " I want to connect to the network or I want to enter the key manually". If you click on that option , it will ask you for the security key.
If you don't know the security key, then you will need to check the settings of the router. You will need to open the router set up page where you can check all the wireless settings of teh router. If you want, you can also find the PIN on the wireless settings page of the router.
If you are trying to connect any other wireless device to the network and it is asking you for the PIN then you will need to open the set up page of the router and under wireless settings you will find PIN.

I have a DIR-615 router and can not locate the device ownership password. It is not on the label beneath the MAC address. Any ideas?

This Device Ownership password is actually reffering to the WPS PIN number of your router which is usually on the sticker on the device. If you can't see it anywhere on the device, scan for wireless networks and connect to your network.
Once it will ask for the device Ownership password again, just click on the phrase that says " I want to enter a network key or passphrase instead" or " I don't want to configure, I just want to connect" ( this is applicable with vista ). If you have an XP computer and your using the wireless utility of your computer, disable that utility and use the Windows Zero Configuration.

About a week ago my HP Pavilion DV4000 couldn't pick up my wireless linsys G router and said that no wireless connections were found. I had to use a wireless B card I had lying around but still having...

You are using a B wireless adater on windows XP computer.
Tere might be adapter utility installed on your computer. You can use that software to connect to the wireless network or you can switch over to windows software to connect.
It will be better if you use the WINDOWS XP to connect to the network.
Check the wireless settings of the router also.

Cannot connect my wifi laptop to the wireless router

If you use your original Win XP disks, there's a chance you now have XP SP1 (Service Pack 1). Make sure you've made all the necessary Windows Updates as working with WiFi networks was enhanced with XP SP2. Then you can try to find your wireless network and connect to it. If you had a secured network you'll need your previous network key (similar to a password, but without a username, the wireless key is needed to exchange data with the router) If you can't remember the settings on your Linksys you can reset it to factory settings with inserting something into the reset hole to press the hidden buton and holding it for several seconds until lights on the front flash. Then you HAVE to run the initial install procedure (find your CD and Quick Start sheet) because your router will be open and unsecured.

Network key

Lkrawlings:
Can you go into your router from IE? like http://192.168.x.x, then from this configuration page of your router you can find what key you had put into your router. Make sure the type of security you are using like WEP, WPA, PSK, WPA2 etc. This key should match on your desktop or laptop machine to gain connection to your router.

If you are unable to find your key like this then:

You could refresh your router to factory defaults by pressing for 5 seconds, you will find this hole at the back of your router. try going again into your router like I said above and make up any other key.
Hope that helped!
