Avintagedish, Possible problem w/unit power supply. Go trade it in on new a new wide screen so the electronics technician in the repair area of the store can (with a little luck) put less than $10 in parts into your unit and maybe have a nice VX2235WM to give to his 10 year old kid to play games on. I sure hope you have a valid warranty!! You should verify that VX2235WM does same at KNOWN GOOD pc!!! Swap-in a KNOWN GOOD monitor to prove pc is OK!!! Read my FIXYA profile and learn "flashlight test" for "rude an crude" test of "switch-mode-power-supply" status. Follow the links you find there to other web sites for more info. Check to see if ViewSonic has a cash+old swapout for factory refurbished unit for premature failed units! I'm lmistyrel over on aim. and 12fixlouie on FIXYA good luck in your quest to fix unit. It can be fixed. Just do your research FIRST! So you don't get ROOKED if you contract out the work. Read, read, and read some more!! Visit YOUTUBE for video clips of LCD monitor repair and disassembly. FYI.
Bye for now.

Hello,

This is a very common problem with this model after a few years of use. This problem is caused by a failure of the capacitors in the power supply board hat powers up the back lights in the monitor. When the back lights don't power up you get no display on the screen. Here is a link to a repair guide for that model that shows how to open the unit and what to look for and replace to repair the monitor.

I have a viewsonic LCD VX2235 and it just went black. It switches from the green light to amber light with no picture but you can see a faint flicker in the background. Please help

Look for bad caps with bulging tops as shown in my pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Viewsonic%20VX2235W/
They should be replaced as a set (6 black cases, 2 brown cases). Use PANASONIC FM or F series from Digikey.
Please post back what you find.
