Hi.

If this is a laptop , then the CMOS battery is often located on the lower side of the motherboard, and not on the upper one.

The CMOS battery also does not necessarily look like a coin, there are several kind.

To be more specific, I would need details on your computer make and model.

Regards.

The CMOS battery is a coin battery and is located under the palm rest, near to the wireless card:

Check that the battery is not hidden under a protective plastic sheet. In the service manual is reported that the battey is located under the mouse pad.

Once you find the battery, lift it gently using a flat screw driver, the metal part on top will go up a bit and you can snap the battery out.

Wait one minute and put back the battery.

    Do not touch anything else.

I must also warn you that there is risk to damage the laptop by disassembling.

Do not connect power cord or put in main battery while unit is disassembled.

Note: If the battery is not where it should be , as indicated in picture, then it may be located on the opposite face of the mainboard, under the motherboard. First ensure that the battery is not located where it is supposed to be.

What is the password I need to enter on the black screen on my toshiba satelite C855

more info please, you say black screen??? you mean a starup password before it loads the bios, ie well before windows starts, or is it as windows is starting up, more info please, and i have 2 possible fixes, both a little complicated as you may need to open the laptop up to remove the small round internal battery for 10mins then replace or i'll try and guide you to reseting the bios by bridging a couple of jumpers located near or behind your Ram chips.
This can be complicated and if your not comfortable in taking things apart i dont recommend it, so taking it to a pc shop will help but not sure how much it will cost.

best regards

Need Dell C400 Authentification Password

he simplest way to remove BIOS password is to simply remove the CMOS battery. A computer will remember its settings and keep the time even when it is turned off and unplugged because these parts are powered by small battery inside the computer called a CMOS battery. If we pull out this battery, the computer will forget alot of its hardware settings, including its BIOS password. This should not be performed on Laptops if you are not experienced working with laptop hardware.
If that doesn't work,you'll need a bios/cmos password recovery tool from http://www.biospasswordrecovery.com

My 12yearold son thought it would be cute to put a bios password on a toshiba satellite 1415-s105 and forgot the password need to remove the password and I already tried removing the main batt and the...

I believe you have done a battery discharge way but is still not working. There are software that can actually do the reset or even remove the password on the BIOS. Also, please try the below
With the battery in, find the CMOS jumper. There should be two pins connected with a jumper(lets named it Pin 1 and Pin ) and there should be pins that is free (lets call it Pin 3). Let say Pin 1, 2, and 3. You need to take off that jumper and moved it to pin2 and pin3 for few seconds and then reinstall it back to Pin1 and Pin2.
CMOS password should be now reset.

Lost bios password which was the serial and dont have it is there a way to bypass

Hello

First, remove the case to look at the motherboard, so we can try resetting the CMOS battery. This battery looks a shiny little disk the size of a nickel. Pry the battery free gently, and reinsert the battery after 10 minutes. If this worked and you don't see the password prompt, you don't need any more steps; the problem is fixed. In my experience, two or more additional steps might be necessary depending on the make of the BIOS. Unfortunately, they don't all respond to the same tricks.

Next, now that the case is already removed, locate the jumpers near the edge of the board or near the CPU or the CMOS battery. Once located, find the label that will say clear CMOS, or clear password, etc. Place the jumper over the pins and boot. If this works, no more steps are needed. If it doesn't work, read on.

The third step to try is to enter a password. When you receive the password prompt, try one of the following passwords. If you have an Award BIOS, try these; AWARD PW, ALFAROME, or _award. If you have Phoenix BIOS try, CMOS, PHOENIX, or BIOS.

If none of these things have worked, as a last resort, try a software utility that resets system passwords. These utilities can be found online.

I need a password but i dont know it

There is no easy way to do this, you need to remove the internal BIOS battery, this requires you to take the computer apart. See the directions here (http://www.pcdoc.bz/service/free-info/lifebook.htm)

If you do not mind spending a little money you can download software that will take care of this for you, see link for more info (http://www.biospasswordrecovery.com/) I use this for my customers, works great and only $25.

I need to reset the power n password for ibm t42

This varies from laptop to laptop, some ibm laptops have a special memory chip for the password that will prevent users from reseting the password.

In most of the laptops out there you can remove the bios password by removing the 3 volt memory battery inside, but in ibm laptops there may be a rom chip that stores the password, so it doesn't get removed even after removing the battery, there was some work around solution posted online somewhere, but its not guaranteed to work.

IBM t42.. I don't know if this laptop has any special bios password protection.

Try removing the internal battery and see if it helps, leave it unplugged for a while.

if this doesn't solve the issue theres probably a rom chip that stores the passwords, the ibms are made a little better than the average laptops out there, not as easy to bypass.

if you get a system disabled xxxxx code if you enter the password wrong 3 times this may be unlocked at a local ibm service center, even I could give it try since I have access to some of the manufacturer code calculators.

if the bios battery didn't solve the problem and you don't get a disabled message either, then you might have to sort a few pins on the bios chip to reset it, thats something you will need to look into on your own and do at your own risk, theres also the guide somewhere online for creating a tool to remove the password.

last option is to take the ibm to a service center to get it unlocked, this one is the best and recommended option for you.
